Months after the release of Prey on Hulu, star Amber Midthunder continues to receive praise for her performance in the Predator precursor.
For this year’s Saturn Awards, Midthunder has been named the recipient of the Breakthrough Performance Award. Past recipients of this award include Grant Gustin for: The flashMelissa Benoist for super girland KJ Apa for Riverdale. The actress shared the news on social media along with a few emoji to express her happiness.
Prey has not been nominated for Saturn Awards because it was weeks short of qualifying. If Midthunder were nominated for: Preywould she compete with Cate Blanchett (nightmare alley), Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place, Part II), Zoe Kravitz (the batter), Keke Palmer (no), Emma Stone (Cruella), Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at once), and Zendaya (Spider-Man: No Way Home).
Prey has also proven to be a critical hit, ranking highly as the highest rated Predator film on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 93%. Many fans and critics have labeled the film the franchise’s best installment since the original. The strong reviews only added to the film’s high viewership on Hulu, as the film also set the record for the most-watched movie premiere in the streaming platform’s history. Many asked why the film couldn’t hit theaters, leaving fans wondering how much the critically acclaimed film would have made at the box office if given the chance.
Will Amber Midthunder be back for a Prey sequel?
Big things are coming for Amber Midthunder after the success of Prey, and fans will have much more to look forward to from the rising star. Still, some fans may wonder if Prey is getting an immediate sequel so they can see more of Midthunder in her favorite role as Naru. There’s nothing in the works right now, but Midthunder suggested she’d be open to returning if the right idea is presented.
“I don’t know what the plans are for the future, but I trust in whatever decision they make,” she said via EW. “Dan has worked on it for so long with 20th Century. Obviously all that time was used to make something great. I’m sure nobody would make anything again if it wasn’t great. So I guess whatever happens, I think it’s the right choice.”
Dan Trachtenberg directed Prey using a screenplay co-written with Patrick Aison. In addition to Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Dane DiLiegro, Michelle Thrush, Stormee Kipp, Julian Black Antelope and Bennett Taylor star. John Davis, Jhane Myers and Marty P. Ewing produced.
