Quinta Brunson begins hosting ‘SNL’ on April 1 as strike looms

“Abbott Elementary” creator and star Quinta Brunson has turned down her debut as host of Saturday Night Live on April 1 — after the show’s post-production employees say they will go on strike.

Additionally, Lil’ Yachty is set to be the musical guest that night.

On Thursday, motion picture editors announced that the post-production editorial team at “SNL” plans to go on strike as early as next month after the union failed to reach an agreement with NBCUniversal.

Last fall, about 20 post-production editors aligned with the Editors Guild, also known as IATSE Local 700. The union sent a contract to NBC Universal in December, and NBCU responded a month later, but the Editors Guild said the counteroffer was not good enough.

The Editors Guild cited low pay for its employees, which it says wages are “well below industry standards.”

Sources close to the talks say NBCUniversal plans to continue talks with the Editors Guild and hopes to reach an agreement by the end of March, the day Brunson is scheduled to host the late-night sketch show.

In addition to the hit series getting a third season, Brunson won Best Lead Performance in a New Scripted Series at the Independent Spirit Awards.
