Tom Cruise jumps right back into his role as Pete Mitchell of “Maverick,” while Miles Teller embodies a completely new character in the storyline that audiences instantly fell in love with. Even eight months after its release, Top gun: Maverick continues to receive millions of streams and is by far one of the most successful films of the year, earning the Best Picture nomination.
7/10 Glass Onion: A Mystery of the Blades
Glass Onion: A Mystery of the Blades is the second installment in the Knives out franchise. Fans have been eager to release the crime/comedy movie since the original Knives out did so well in 2019. The story follows a group of elite and successful individuals, who meet to spend the weekend on their billionaire friend’s private island at the eponymous Glass Onion. Little do they know there is a murderer among the group, and the weekend, meant to be filled with light-hearted games, turns into a real murder mystery. Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, Jessica Henwick, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Dave Bautista, and Leslie Odom Jr. make up the film’s incredible cast.
6/10 The Banshees of Inisherin
This Best Picture – Musical or Comedy nominee is one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year. Martin McDonagh, best known for his Academy Award winning film Three billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri and In Burges, directed this film about a man living off the coast of Ireland whose lifelong best friend suddenly ends their relationship. The man, Pádaric, embarks on a journey to restore his friendship, encountering unexpected challenges along the way. The Banshees of Inisherin is definitely one of this year’s top contenders for Best Picture.

Cate Blanchett stars in this film about a famous musician who, on the cusp of her career-changing gig, goes through some of the most trying moments of her career. Tar is a beautiful story about a dedicated artist and the bond between mother and daughter. Todd Field is the visionary director behind the project and is nominated for Best Screenplay – Motion Picture at this year’s Golden Globes. Blanchett’s performance is what makes this movie so incredible, and she’s also one of the top contenders for Best Performance by an Actress in a Feature Film – Drama.
4/10 Avatar: the way of the water
The most hyped and anticipated movie of 2022 was hands down Avatar: the way of the water. James Cameron’s sequel to the original avatar has been in the works since the release of the original film in 2009. After multiple release date changes over the past few years, the second part of the franchise was finally released in December 2022. With a runtime of more than three hours, the reviews are ahead Avatar: the way of the water are mixed, with the main criticism being the film’s length. This movie shows how wild and unregulated Hollywood and the movie industry were in the 1920s. Diego Calva, Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt give incredible performances and have all been nominated for Golden Globes for their respected roles.

Baz Luhrmann Elvis is a tribute to the king of rock and roll and the challenges Elvis Presley faced throughout his life to become the legend he is today. Beginning with Elvis’ childhood, the film takes us through Presley’s entire life, from his first encounters with music, his family life, his first performance, and everything about his career up to his death. Austin Butler gives the performance of his career, embodying Elvis as best he can. Check elvis, you can really feel how much Presley really loved his fans and how his entire life was devoted to music.

Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest living directors. With classics like Jaws, ET, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, and SavingPrivate Ryan, there is no shortage of incredible works that the filmmaker has created. The story is about a young boy who falls in love with movies and starts making his own movies at home with the support of his family. Gabriel LaBelle, Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, and Julia Butters all give great performances in the movie. The Fables is a favorite among critics and audiences alike and is expected to do great this upcoming awards season.
