While it may seem like a near-impossible turnaround, new rumors say Spider-Man 4 could hit theaters as early as July 2024.
Spider Man 4 was never really in doubt, and it seems that the phenomenally successful box office run of Spider-Man: No Way Home may prompt Marvel Studios and Sony to bring Tom Holland’s web garland back to screens sooner rather than later. According to a new rumor shared by The cosmic circusthe joint fourth outing for Marvel’s golden boy is expected in the summer of 2024. With so many Marvel movies coming out in the coming years, we’ll be seeing new forays for many of Marvel’s greatest heroes, but possibly an early return for Peter Parker sparked another slate change?
If this rumor turns out to be true, and Marvel and Sony plan to slip Spider Man 4 in a July 12, 2024 slot, which would mean there would only be two weeks between that movie and the previously announced one Lightning strikes debut. This would also be just two months after the release of Captain America: New World Order on May 3, and would also be followed by Sheet and Deadpool 3 in their new September 6 and November 8 slots respectively. While that could be possible, it’s unlikely that Marvel Studios would want to release two films within 14 days of each other, especially when a Spider Man 4 late just before Lightning strikes would most likely have a negative impact on the final release.
Will there be more Marvel date changes after today’s Slate Shuffle?
Marvel Studios just reworked their release schedule, with several movies including: Sheet, Deadpool 3, Fantastic Four and Avengers: Secret Wars, all of which were delayed by three to ten months. There are still a lot of dates written in the Marvel calendar that don’t have specific movies associated with them, and it will probably end with Spider Man 4 taking these or Thunderbolts pushed down the line.
When it comes down to it, Marvel Studios has a specific timeline for events in the MCU, and whether Spider Man 4s storyline doesn’t fit into that story that early, there could be a bit more discussion between them and Sony before anything is decided for sure. But all we can gather from all this is that even if it turns out to be just a rumor, Spider-Man 4 is clearly on everyone’s mindwhich is not surprising given that his films are guaranteed to attract huge audiences, as was seen during the Covid pandemic when Spider-Man: No Way Home became one of the highest grossing films of all time.
Tom Holland is already expected to play Peter Parker in a new trilogy of films, which will begin with Spider Man 4 and could see the character go in an unexpected direction after the world forgot that Peter Parker is Spider-Man in the final moments of his latest outing. There have been many comments from Kevin Feige and others about how important Tom Holland’s hero is to the MCU, and of course in Spider-Man: No Way Homes mid-credits scene, Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock ended his short trip to the MCU by leaving behind a small portion of his symbiote self, hinting that a new version of Venom is also coming to the MCU in Spider-Man’s next outing. We may be able to hear more about this in the near future.
