Jake Gyllenhaal put on death wings on Thursday’s “Hot Ones” season 20 finale, and — after jokingly questioning who would use a toothpick during the process — retracted his comment when he learned it was Elizabeth Olsen.
After a middle-of-the-road sauce with siren on its label, Gyllenhaal drew attention to the toothpicks and wet napkins available for use next to his chicken wing platter. He refused to use either one competitively, mockingly pulling down any “a-hole” who did so in front of him.
“Which hole was used on which toothpick?” the “Covenant” star asked incredulously.
Host Sean Evans revealed that “Wandavision” actress Elizabeth Olsen actually broke him up — a revelation for which Gyllenhaal quickly apologized.
“Oh, sorry Elizabeth,” he said, laughing. “He’s, like, really the lowest-a-hole I’ve ever met, I’m sorry.”
“Let that one back, Jake?” Evans asked.
The actor said, “I’m totally following back.” “Give the 14 of Apollos, I’m sorry.”
Gyllenhaal was referring to the hottest sauce in Apollo’s final dub, the Gauntlet.
Olsen used a toothpick to pick some chicken off his teeth after biting into the Scorpion Disco Wing, ranked ninth in its lineup of sauces and 649,000 in the Scoville spice ranking. She and Evans recalled how her “Ingrid Goes West” co-star Aubrey Plaza smelled milk To get through that lived experience.
Following Gyllenhaal’s apology, Evans went straight to questions about whether simulating altitude sickness with Josh Brolin was more uncomfortable or being nervous for his role as an LAPD cop in “End of Watch.”
In the wide-ranging interview, Gyllenhaal took a walk down memory lane and discussed his roles in projects as diverse as “Nightcrawler,” “Prisoners,” “Jarheads” and more. He can next be seen in ‘The Covenant’, which hits theaters on April 21.
