Shahid Kapoor’s damn good action debut should be at the top of your watch list

Jio Studios brings a wide variety of content to Jio Cinemas. It seems to pack a lot into drawing the public to its OTT platform. The latest version is Damn daddy starring Shahid Kapoor, Ronit Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Sanjay Kapoor, Diana Penty and more. Considering it’s Shahid Kapoor with some great actors contributing to the cast of Bloody Daddy, one could easily argue whether the movie should have had a theatrical release. What’s Hot?

THE Shahid Kapoor! Mainly Shahid, but we have to give credit to the rest of the cast which consists of Ronit Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Sanjay Kapoor, Diana Penty, Vivan Bhathena and others. Ali Abbas Zafar’s direction would keep you hooked and on the edge of your seat. Speaking of Shahid, his portrayal of Sumair is just fantastic and effortless. Shahid sinks his teeth into the character and takes you to the inner core. His Sumair is kind, sensitive, mischievous and BLOODY! He has delivered a nuanced performance in Bloody Daddy. You can feel the wheels turning in Sumair’s mind as he tries to tip the scales in his favor throughout the film. Ronit Roy as Sikander, the drug lord is fantastic. He is funny by nature and also sinister, although he holds back his dark side to the end. In addition to being a drug lord, Sikander is also a businessman. The actor’s well-balanced performance never lets you take your eyes off him. Sanjay Kapoor and Mukesh Bhhatt make a great duo, and they bring a new twist packed with great jokes that will have you rolling.

Seeing Rajeev Khandelwal on screen is a delight for his fans. His scenes with Shahid Kapoor are a treat for all action buffs. Diana Penty is an honest cop in this. Vivan Bhathena plays Ronit’s younger brother in the movie and you would like to see more of him. The heart and soul of the story is Shahid Kapoor as a father. His emotions and his helplessness and yet his sensitivity and awareness tug at your heart. The actor sets the bar higher than ever. Bloody Daddy also has humor that comes as a surprise. But luckily it’s subtle and not forced. The punches are thrown in casual conversation but hit well. The action in the movie is nothing OTT and thank goodness for that. It’s realistic, bright and a tad gory, but hey, blame the genre.

What not?

Actually nothing. The pace of the movie is slow poison, but it’s honestly not a big deal. In places the pace you may feel falters, but it picks up nicely again. It could have been trimmed a bit, but even that is arguable.

BL verdict:

Bloody Daddy deserves a watch and several times. Despite the remake era in Bollywood bringing standards down, Bloody Daddy doesn’t disappoint at all. Instead, it takes you on a roller coaster ride that will have you honking your horn towards the end of the movie and eventually pulling you back in line for another ride. Shahid Kapoor is ace, Ronit Roy is fantastic and Rajeev Khandelwal is great! Goes with 4.5 stars.

Judgement : 4.5 out 5
