Ranbir Kapoor is back with Shamshera and this action entertainer’s pre-bookings have been open for over 5 days. The film stars Ranbir with Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor. The film shows about an average trend in presale from Wednesday evening. It has sold about 23,000 tickets at the three national chains – PVR, Inox and Cinepolis – and would ideally like to close about 60,000 to 65,000.

The general expectation was that the film would exceed the total ticket sales of Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (1 Lakh), but as the days passed, the industry was expecting presales in the order of 75,000. But given current trends, it looks like it will be south of 65,000 by the end of Thursday. To put it in perspective, Jug Jugg Jeeyo had sold 57,000 tickets, while Samrat Prithviraj had sold 41,000 tickets. By Wednesday evening, Samrat Prithviraj had sold about 14,000 tickets.

The downside for Shamshera is the pricing, because even if it sells more tickets than Jug Jugg Jeeyo at national chains, the total collections could be lower as Jug Jugg Jeeyo had about 40% higher prices on these properties. The advance for Shamshera has been below expectations, but as it is a mass movie, everyone expects a strong run-in in the day if the reports are even decent.

The film will start around Rs. 12.5 to 14.5 crore on opening day following pre-booking trends, flirting with Kartik Aaryan’s horror comedy for the upcoming biggest Bollywood opener of the year. Whether it beats it or not depends on the word of mouth from the public as positive talks can cost up to Rs. 15 to 16 crores and negative talk will stop it at Rs. 12 million dollars. Surprisingly, the bookings are out of order in mass belts, and this segment of the audience is expected to hit the counter on release day.
