Review by: Russel D’Silvac
When season 1 of Delhi crime had premiered on Netflix Indiait caused many a surprise and opened many a day for Indians OTT content. First, nobody, not even Netflix himself had foreseen how big it would become and, furthermore, it was the first of its kind, non-documentary web series in the country, based on a brutal true incident that had shocked the nation, in addition to finally giving Shefali Shah a headlining act that both her talent if her arrest (no pun) on screen is worthy.
Now, 3 years later, most of the same case and crew are returning for Delhi Crime season 2, this time with the burden of expectations and baggage of following up on their class act. do they? Well, almost, and that’s more than good enough. So, are you excited about what you’re going to watch this weekend or what you’re going to watch this week and wondering if Delhi Crime 2 is your time worth Scroll down for my full Delhi Crime Season 2 Review…
What is it about
DCP Vartika Chaturvedi (Shefali Shah) and her unit are back and this time dealing with the ghosts of the past as a new, scarier version of the Kachcha-Banyan gang, who terrorized Delhi with robberies and murders in the 90s , returns to target the elderly of Delhi’s elite strata.

what’s hot
Unlike season 1, this time the performances take center stage during the actual investigation (why come later). Shefali Shah is alive and breathing now Vartika Chaturvedic, switching seamlessly between caring, vulnerable and fierce, as Rasika Dugal and Rajesh Talang paint individual portraits of what it takes to be an honest police officer who struggles with family life, albeit as opposite sexes. Tillotama Shome and the rest of the cast are also right. Creator Richie Mehta reweaves Delhi like a dark, dirty carpet, well supported by Tanuj Chopra’s astute directing and some perfect camera work and editing (it’s welcome to see a show that ends in 5 episodes with no unnecessary overtures). The class divide in Delhi is brilliantly highlighted, and the way a gang we all gave birth to in the 90s is successfully revived with a modern texture.
What not
While Season 1 was a gritty investigation to the end, Season 2 needs some rescue from its fine cast as the plot descends after the actual gang is revealed. You just know how it will go on (hence it was smart to shorten it to 5 episodes) while, ironically, the actual incident, which was previously documented in the media in the first season, kept us going until the very end. kept addicted. The culprits’ character arcs are haphazardly etched (except for one, which I can’t reveal here), and the investigation becomes a by-the-numbers course in the final episode. The background score also had to be reworked.
BL verdict
Delhi Crime 2 doesn’t quite match the lofty heights of the first season, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s yet another good police procedure, exposing the dark, dirty belly of Delhi, and exalted by the beautiful Shefali Shah, with Rasika Dugal and Rajesh Talang provide adequate support. I’m going for 3.5 out of 5 stars.
