Approximately 300-400 members of the Film Studios Setting & Allied Mazdoor Union have been working for Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment in various locations in and outside Mumbai since May 2022. These are day wage workers and should be paid their wages. However, the said production house is said to have failed to pay the wages of these workers for the past 3-4 months.

The workers’ total outstanding dues would be around Rs. 20-25 lakh
Employees have now accused Excel Entertainment of extending working hours beyond the limits allowed under the provision in the Labor Code. Reportedly, these workers have not received payment for all the extra hours. Also, they would not get good quality food at work.
The workers are so afraid of losing their jobs that they cannot raise their voices. However, the union has now raised the matter with the said production house and with the government authorities, requesting their intervention in the matter and requesting them to release this outstanding dues from the said production as soon as possible.
The Film Studios Setting & Allied Mazdoor Union has taken up such cases of non-payment with all the respective authorities of Labour, Police and Ministry of State.
However, no action has yet been taken against the allegedly guilty production house.
We tried to contact Excel for their side of the story. There was no response.
