Louisa is asked to return to the case, and in the coming episodes, on her own mission to find out who killed “the man she loves”.

Demary-Burns and Eleazar chat with TheWrap about Min’s death and what happens next on the Apple TV+ series.

TheWrap: Dustin, when did you know what was going to happen with Min?

Demery-Burns: When I found out I got the part I started looking at, you know, buying big houses. And then my agent said, “No, don’t get too excited. You can’t make it beyond Series 2.” So I knew. And then it was kind of funny that it was the clock ticking for me. Wasn’t it the rose, you and [director] jeremy [Lovering],

Eleazar: Yes, kept bringing it to him and kept reminding him that the walking man was about to die. It’s really sad though.

Demery-Burns: As an actor, you are grateful and excited to be a part of something. It’s definitely better than nothing. And being in it for so long, it was a good two years of my life. So it was a really big, big, big, big deal.

Eleazar: This must have really shocked people who haven’t read the books [by Mick Herron], like what? you killed that character? I think at one point the writers were thinking “God, are we really that stupid to kill off a beloved character?” Unfortunately, the books were written, Dustin.

demary-burns: And that makes for better TV, doesn’t it? You have to be bold. You can’t play it safe.

Eleazar: It’s actually quite difficult. I found it difficult to be on set the following season without Dustin.

What happens next for Luisa? Does he already suspect that this is not an accident?

Eleazar: He has teamed up with another slow horse. To be honest, Post Min, she is a bit wild. But yeah, she goes straight back to work. She wants to, because she’s not going to deal with it. And she’s the kind of character who holds it all in and internalizes her trauma. She wants to continue working to take her mind off it, but at the same time, she’s trying to find out who killed the man she loves.

Does she trust the other slow horses at this point?

Eleazar: She does not like being paired with Marcus (Caddif Kirwan), as she feels he has been put there to keep an eye on her. So it’s not mistrust, it’s just that she wants to do it on her own.

Demery-Burns: You have such a nice, soulful story and I really didn’t understand it until you explained it completely.

Eleazar: It’s really heavy. ‘Slow Horses’ balances its lines between comedy and drama. This part is really serious. After he dies, all this happens in two days. It’s really too soon. There’s really no time to process what’s happened.

Will she die to get the truth in this matter?

Eleazar: Definitely. You just think, “Oh my God, stop, just stop, stop, stop. Ask someone for help. And in a weird way she becomes a better agent. Because she’s just more aware. And she’s almost Hyper alert.

Roddy (Christopher Chung) and Spider’s reaction to Min’s death is harsh.

'Slow Horses' finale postmortem: The director breaks down that shocking backstory

Eleazar: Yes, very harsh. And this is in the style of “slow horse”. People care, but nobody really cares. Louisa, maybe River (Jack Lowden) to some extent, and Lamb in their own way, but yeah, it’s not the piece when someone dies, which makes it all the more biting.

Demery-Burns: For most people, it’s like life goes on and it’s so refreshingly real and brutal and I think there’s an element of commercialism in it too. That’s the way it is, that’s the way it works and that’s the kind of world we’re in.

Do we get a moment when the characters go to the pub and toast Min?

Eleazar: There’s a moment towards the end, which is the “Slow Horse” version of it, and it’s very harsh and cutthroat. It’s so painful to watch and you see Luisa’s face. And he’s furious that we’re missing him like that.
