“SNL” envisions the scariest Democratic candidates for the 2024 presidential race, from Joe Biden to Beto O’Rourke, in a sketch parodying the dire odds for the next presidential election via a horror movie trailer .
The sketch begins with a mundane night out for a couple, played by Chloe Fineman and Mickey Day, who learn that President Joe Biden intends to run for re-election, a frightening prospect that will leave him with the Democratic Party. sends us into existential fear for the future. And as the nation the pair identifies other candidates they would love to run in place of Biden.
“Sometimes a familiar face can be the most terrifying. You once trusted him,” the trailer echoes as Day reassures his partner — and himself — that Joe Biden isn’t too old for the job and notes that he successfully defeated Donald Trump in 2020. “But can he beat DeSantis?” Fineman intervenes, confirming Day’s fears that the prospect of Biden running again is terrifying indeed.
It would be pardoned if it didn’t mention Biden’s age, as the trailer cuts to another terrified Democrat (Punky Johnson) doing the math about how old Biden will be in 2024 — and the answer (81) sends him into a frenzy.
His friends – played by Johnson, Bowen Yang and Heidi Gardner – joined the distressed couple, with Fineman attempting to be the comforting voice of the cause by listing Biden’s accomplishments since he took office – student debt relief, NATO a Keeping up with and infrastructure bills. Suddenly the night takes a turn when Gardner scans his phone and shares a report that Biden isn’t actually going to walk, but only wants to present a “united front” before midterm. The group begins shortlisting potential candidates – Kamala Harris, Corey Booker, Pete Buttigieg – all of whom are called “Wake up!”, “Listen to yourself!” Or violent shaking of the shoulders. They all begin to spiral when they hear a knock on the door that presents its own scary news: Beto O’Rourke is running for president.
When the word “Bernie” appears in bloody letters dripping from a wall, the night slips into full horror territory, and Day suggests in a calm, low-pitched voice, “I have the perfect candidate. A superstar who’s every bit as well.” — Hilary (Clinton),” as she transforms into the “smile” villain.
Believing they’re doomed, Friends returns to Biden as the safest bet for 2024, with “2020: Part Two” as the credits roll.
