What is it about?

Dahaad is a latest entry in the police thriller genre. It is a story of a cop named Anjali Bhaati played by Sonakshi Sinha. She is assigned to investigate a case of a missing girl who eloped with an anonymous man. Rajasthan – Set in a small village of Mandawa, Dahaad is a very carefully written story that subtly touches even societal evils such as casteism and sexism. Gulshan Devaiah and Sohum Shah also play police officers while Vijay Verma is the villain Anand Swarnakar, a Hindi professor. As the story unfolds, the investigation takes a drastic turn as stories of many runaway girls emerge and they all appear to have died from the use of “cyanide.” Is the story gripping enough to hold your attention? What’s Hot?

Crime thrillers may be commonplace, but they’re not that easy to make. Each character needs their journey to develop and earn a place in the hearts of the audience. Dahad manages to do this. All characters are carefully written and have their own journey. Being a cop drama, you might expect it to be all filled with machoism, but the opposite is true. Gulshan Devaiah as Devilal is the heart of the show. He is different from the other Bollywood hero cops who only manage to impress with his power. He is sensitive, emotional and has the power to connect. You rarely see that in police dramas with strong male characters. Sonakshi Sinha as Anjali Bhaati manages to do a good job. She manages to keep the character in place even though it doesn’t have much graphics to show different emotions. But the shining star of Dahaad is Vijay Varma. Professor Anand Swarnakar is a character who will be remembered for a long time. With his excellent acting performances, he knows how to captivate the audience and sometimes even make them believe that he is innocent. But he is ruthless and how. Sohum Shah and others have managed to deliver powerful performances.

What not?

Dahaad is a web series with 8 episodes and all of them are almost an hour long. Although it is a gripping story, the length of the episodes is a major drawback. Sometimes the episodes and scenes seem unnecessarily stretched. It also becomes predictable after a point. Sometimes the story gets stuck in clichéd conjectures and assumptions with Sonakshi Sinha’s mother constantly trying to find her a suitable groom, Devilal’s wife who doesn’t want to be her daughter, stubborn like Anjali Bhaati and more, which people find difficult now to make contact.

Pronunciation

Watch Dahaad to see Vijay Varma deliver his best yet. The story is captivating and could be on your must-watch list this weekend.
