Sonali Phogat held on to her accused aide as she struggled to maintain balance, reveals CCTV footage; PA confesses to crime

The investigation into the death of BJP leader and former Bigg Boss participant Sonali Phogat took a dramatic turn when Goa police arrested Sudhir Sangwan, the victim’s personal assistant, along with Sukhwinder Singh on Friday in connection with the murder case. During a press conference, Inspector General of Police Omvir Singh Bishnoi said that Sangwan confessed to the crime. “After drinking the water, she felt uncomfortable and nauseous in the restaurant. She was later taken by Sangwan and Sukhwinder to the hotel, where they were staying, and then to St. Antony’s Hospital, Anjuna, where she was pronounced dead.” said the officer. The police officer said that after reaching Goa, he and Sukhwinder took Sonali Phogat to Curlie’s restaurant in North Goa under the pretense of partying and he (Sangwan) mixed an unpleasant substance in drinking water and forced Sonali to drink it. The CCTV footage of relevant buildings was examined by the detective and it was found that Sudhir had Sonali forcibly drink something. Sonali struggled to keep her balance and stumbled into the pub holding Sangwan for support. The timestamp on the images is 4:27 AM.

“Since the postmortem report does not state the exact cause of death and would only be available after chemical examination of the viscera, histopathological and serological reports which would take some time, in order to avoid the possibility of destruction of evidence and the witnesses, both Sekwind and Sangwan have been arrested and further investigations are underway,” Bishnoi said, adding that the matter will be investigated from all angles.

Sonali’s brother Rinku Dhaka told reporters on Thursday: “Sudhir Sagwan (PA from Phogat) told us that there was filming on August 24. But hotel rooms were only booked for two days, on August 22 and 23. There was no film shooting. It was fake. We didn’t see an actor or movie here.”

According to Goa police, Sonali Phogat felt uneasy on Monday evening and later in the morning (Tuesday) she was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Anjuna around 8 am, where she was pronounced dead.
