Star Wars, Happy Days actor Gary Friedkin has passed away at the age of 70

Actor Gary Friedkin died of COVID-19 complications, People reports. He was 70 years old.


Friedkin, best known for his roles as Clarence on Happy Days and an Ewok in it Star Wars: Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi“endured a difficult three-and-a-half weeks in the medical intensive care unit” before dying “peacefully” at a hospice care facility Dec. 2, according to an obituary shared by the actor’s family.

“He was a gift to all who knew him as a wonderful son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle and friend. Gary lived his life to the fullest and brought endless laughter to his family and many friends as he overcome the obstacles he never got in the way,” reads the obituary, published in the Tribune Chronicle.

Also appearing in movies like 2016’s mothers DayFriedkin’s family says everyone the actor met had “a Gary story” — including the “long list” of actors he worked with.

“Gary brought countless smiles to people’s faces and left so many with their own special ‘Gary Story’.”

Despite his short stature, Friedkin’s family say he was “giant” to loved ones

Although Friedkin was only four feet tall, the actor never let his height stop him from having a huge presence in the lives of those who knew him. “Born to entertain” and a proud member of Little People of America, says Friedkin’s family Young doctors in love the actor’s personality made him “a giant” to those who knew him, writing:

“While Gary may have been small in stature, he was a giant among his family and friends. His legacy will live on as stories are told and retold by all who loved him for years to come.”

Friedkin’s family also urged others to “get vaccinated and boosted to protect their family and community,” thanking readers in advance for respecting their privacy at this time.

A celebration of the actor’s life will be held in the spring, and a scholarship has been established in Friedkin’s name at his alma mater, Youngstown State University, for “those with a disability or a concentration in the performing arts.” Donations can be made to the Gary Friedkin Scholarship at YSU Foundation, 655 Wick Ave., Youngstown, OH 44502.

Friedkin is survived by his brother Alan, sister-in-law Carol and several beloved cousins.
