Starz has ordered a second season of “Dangerous Lies” just days before its series premiere on November 6.
Alice Englert (“The Power of the Dog”) and Nicolas Denton (“Glitch”) play literary lovers-slash-enemies Marquis de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont. The series imagines the prologue to Laclos’ 18th-century novel in which the pair meet in Paris and have a passionate relationship at the peak of the French Revolution. The couple must rely on the French nobility and their manipulation to survive themselves: Camille (Englert) is taken in by the current Marquis (played by Leslie Manville), while Valmont chases after a title that has recently been acquired from him. was taken away.
The series also stars Koser Ali, Caris van Houten, Hilton Pelser, Fissio Akinade, Michael McElhatton, Nathanael Saleh, Colette Dalal Tchancho, Hakeem Kay-Kazim, Tom Wlaschiha and Paloma Faith.
Season 2 shooting is expected to begin in Prague, Czech Republic in early 2023.
“We greatly appreciate Starz and Lionsgate for their ongoing support of the show,” executive producer Colin Callender said in a statement. “We’re so excited to share Harriet Warner’s brilliant vision for season two, which will expand our world and deepen the connections between our characters in thrilling, dangerous new ways.”
Starz President of Original Programming, Catherine Busby, said: “‘Dangerous Contact’ is addictive, provocative and beautifully presented. This prologue to the famous 18th-century novel illuminates pre-revolution Paris in its most decadent form. We are confident that by the end of the season an audience will be craving for more intrigue and temptation.”
“Les Liaisons Dangerous” has previously been adapted for the stage and screen, most notably for the 1988 film “Dangerous Liaisons” starring Glenn Close and the 1999 teen drama “Brutal Intents”.
The series is produced for Starz by Playground and Flame Ventures in association with Lionsgate Television. It was created and written by Harriet Warner, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer. In addition to Warner, Colin Callender (Playground), Tony Krantz (Flame Ventures), Scott Huff and Christopher Hampton will continue to serve as executive producers on season two. Liz Gill has been added as producer and Ollie Blackburn will return to direct in Season 2.
