Movie: dobaaraa
Dobaaraa cast: Taapsee Pannu, Rahul Bhat, Pavail Gulati
Dobaaraa director: Anurag Kashyap
Where to watch: In theaters
After Manmarziyaan, Anurag Kashyap and Taapsee Pannu have joined forces for Dobaaraa. The 2018 release was a decent movie and did pretty well at the box office. Dobaaraa is a thriller and a remake of the Spanish film Mirage. The trailer had caught everyone’s attention, and while Taapsee and Anurag did everything they could to promote the film, the buzz around it was low. Dobaaraa hit the big screens today. So, is it worth your time and money? Find out in our Dobaaraa review below…
What is it about
Antara (Taapsee Pannu) and Vikas (Rahul Bhat) are married and have a daughter named Avanti. Moving to a new house, the couple discover an old TV and video camera from the 90s that belonged to Anay (Pankaj Rajput), a boy who lived in that house years ago. Anay witnesses a murder that happened nearby. One night there is a terrible storm that occurs once every 10 years, and that night Antara makes contact with Anay (in the past). What happens next after these two lives from different eras are linked together shapes the rest of the story…
what’s hot
When you watch a suspense thriller, you want to be hooked on the screens and not a predictable plot; Dobaaraa clearly offers that. While watching the movie you might think this would be the suspense, and maybe predict a few things, but when the suspense is revealed you’ll be amazed.
Anurag Kashyap knows how to get the best out of his actors, and of course there is Taapsee Pannu who is known for his strong performances. Taapsee and Saswata Chatterjee impress us with their acts. Pavail Gulati steals the show when he appears on screen.
The two biggest factors that impress us a lot are the editing and the background score. Such films require sharp editing and the background score gets the perfect thriller feel.

What not
While the movie isn’t predictable and keeps us hooked, it’s more like an OTT product. Anurag Kashyap has made a few projects for OTT and he tells Dobaaraa in the same way. We can’t call it one of the filmmaker’s best works and there are loopholes that leave us with question marks; something we don’t expect from an Anurag Kashyap movie.
BL verdict
Dobaaraa is a good movie, but it has an OTT feel to it. Perhaps skipping a theatrical release would have been a better option for the creators.
