EXCLUSIVE: Other changes at Paramount+: Tanya Giles, the streaming platform’s Chief Programming Officer, is leaving the company after a combined 38 years with Paramount Global and its various iterations. A Paramount+ representative confirmed Giles’ departure by Deadline and declined further comment. There is no immediate replacement and Giles’ decision to step down is not part of a reorganization, sources said.
Giles was called to the role in June 2021 as part of a content leadership reorganization at Paramount+. She has overseen programming strategy for content offerings across the streamer and Pluto TV.
Giles is the third Paramount+ executive to announce his departure as part of the June 2021 restructuring. Jim Gianopulos, who was Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures as of September 2021, also served as Paramount+’s Chief Content Officer, Movies. His successor was Brian Robbins.
And Showtime’s David Nevins, who stepped down in October as part of another executive reshuffle, had a dual role as chief creative officer, Paramount+ Scripted Series.
In November, Paramount+’s Scripted Originals team was integrated into Paramount TV Studios. This led to Nicole Clemens, another executive who was part of the June 2021 structure and held a dual role as President of Paramount+ Original Scripted Series, to focus on her responsibilities as President of Paramount Television Studios.
Development and production of original screenplay series for Paramount+ has since been relocated to Paramount Global TV studios, which supply the platform.
In February, it was announced that Showtime’s digital platform would be integrated into Paramount+ and that the Showtime linear network would be rebranded as Showtime’s Paramount+, ushering in further programming changes on the streaming platform.
Also in February, Paramount Global reported that Paramount+ added 9.9 million subscribers to 56 million in the fourth quarter of 2022 and increased revenue by 81% year over year. Subscriber growth was driven by the NFL, Top Gun: Maverick And Smileas well as 1923
Paramount Global’s total revenue of $8.1 billion increased 2% year over year.
Giles was previously GM of MTV Entertainment Group and before that GM of Comedy Central. She has been with the company since 1995, when she first joined CBS as a research analyst.
