Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra’s multi-starrer comedy, Thank God has gotten off to a slow start at the box office. According to early estimates, Thank God is looking to collect in the range of Rs. 8 to 9 crores, meaning the opening is in the same range as Raksha Bandhan and Jugjugg Jeeyo.

This is a rather slow start for a film to be released in the Post Diwali period, but the makers hope to progress well in the future and make up for the opening day numbers. The film has done well in anticipated pockets like Gujarat and Rajasthan as these are the major centers for comedy film films in India. Mumbai was also decent, but thank God the problem was in the North Indian belt.

The numbers up north have been bleak and this slow start makes it very important for Thank God to commit a second day more or less equal to opening day to turn things in its favor during the holiday season.

The final figure could be higher or lower depending on how well the film fared in the single screens, but early data suggests roughly an average start in the mass belts, despite the post-Diwali advantage. The initial response to Thank God seems to be positive and this is an encouraging sign for starters, but we will know the exact word of mouth based on tomorrow’s trend.
