Thank goodness is a non-starter as far as presale goes, as the film has sold just 26,000 tickets across the three national chains – PVR, Inox and Cinepolis – for its opening day. The pre-booking is lower than the dud, Raksha Bandhan, which was released over the Independence Day weekend this year. It’s a wait and see game on word of mouth, because the only way the film can keep a face and save it in the long run is a good conversation with the audience.

Without the holiday thank goodness they would have struggled to clock in even Rs. 7.50 crore on opening day with this level of progress, but now the hope is in the holiday crowd to get closer to show times and somehow help the film reach double digits.

On an all India level, Thank God has sold about 50,000 tickets with a total net collection around Rs. 1 crore mark before opening day. These numbers are dismal to say the least and given the comedy genre and massive cast of Ajay Devgn, Sidharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh, the results should have been better.

It is a boring Diwali as far as progress goes because even thank God will only benefit from it due to the holiday factor as there is a large section that prefers movies on post Diwali day. The industry expects a start of about Rs. 12 crore and it remains to be seen if thank god can somehow reach this number based on holiday and mock audience.
