That Time Brown-Toothed Taylor Swift Auditioned for Les Mis

Taylor Swift’s memory of auditioning for a role in the 2012 film “Les Miserables” with Eddie Redmayne gave her a deep sigh of embarrassment.

“I once died in his arms on a screen test,” she said on Friday’s “The Graham Norton Show” as Redmayne sat beside her and laughed.

At the time, 22-year-old Swift was already working her way to superstardom with the release of “Red” and had a few auditions for two roles in the epic musical, Cosette and Eponin. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen as he had hoped. “I think it was established that I had more of the vocal form of Cosette and Eponin, so it was established that I was there for a Good time, not a long Time. I wasn’t going to get this role,” Swift said with a smile.

Nevertheless, he was called to England to do a screen test with Redmayne, who had already been selected as Marius Pontmerci. She thought, “‘This is one experience I want to have in my life.’ [Eddie’s] One of my favorite actors. You are so ridiculously talented. And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll go to London.'”

But when she got there, they wanted her to be fully in character as a 19th-century street urchin, which meant eponymous death in the dress, gray teeth and dark circles under her eyes.

“They were like, ‘We’re really going to paint your teeth gray for this,'” she recalled. “I was like, ‘You’re going to do this’ Later I meet Eddie Redmayne, right? it’s not something you do before this, I get to meet people and then you gray teeth.'” But no such luck.

“It immediately became a nightmare for me,” she joked, not opening her mouth to speak with her because she usually had a terrible color on her pearly whites. But as it turned out, Redmayne had only one thing on her mind as he held her near for the screen test – balls of garlic dough near her for lunch.

“I thought we’d just be singing to each other,” he recalled. “They and [instead] We were on the floor singing sweet things to each other, and all I knew was I just had garlic bread. I was trying to show emotion, at the same time, not punishing you. ,

“You were crying and I thought it was just because of my looks,” Swift said with a smile. “Like, ‘I just have to be close to him.'”
