Note: This story contains spoilers from the season 3 finale of “Ted Lasso.”
Yes, this may be all that we get. This may be fine.
It’s almost like the “Ted Lasso” theme song speculates that the Season 3 finale will bring closure to nearly all of the major storylines of the Apple TV+ series as the future of the show remains unclear.
Season 3, Episode 12, titled “So Long, Farewell,” debuted Wednesday and wrapped up several loose ends that were left behind in previous episodes. Richmond gets one last exciting soccer game – and a win! Rupert throws a fit. Nate went back to his rightful place on the Greyhounds’ coaching staff. But, before all this happens, Ted tells Rebecca and Beard and the team that he has to say goodbye and go back home to his son.
The 75-minute episode seemed like a happy ending for all of the AFC Richmond family, as Ted returned to America and settled in as a football coach for his son’s team. With star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis pushing for an end to the story, and Apple remaining silent on the show’s fate beyond Season 3, this may indeed be the end.
Grab some tissues, bust your butts, and buckle up. This finale was a wild ride full of amazing and surprising moments:
Ted drops the truth bomb
The words weren’t caught on camera, but let’s say Ted (Sudeikis) wakes up at Rebecca’s (Hannah Waddingham) house, making it look like they slept together. Beard (Brendan Hunt) comes downstairs in a Speedo and Jane (Phoebe Walsh) follows him. Rebecca didn’t want to discuss the cause of the condition. After a few seconds of suspense, he reveals that a dangerous gas leak had forced them out of their homes, forcing them to stay with Rebecca for the night. What didn’t Rebecca want to talk about? Ted shares his plans to leave AFC Richmond so he can return to America to be with his son.
Rebecca debates selling the entire club
As the value of the team increased with their guaranteed place in the Champions League next year, Higgins told Rebecca that she should sell a minority stake in AFC Richmond (49%) and raise additional funds to hire more players and refurbish the stadium. Money should be made. Rebecca asks Higgins (Jeremy Swift) how much he would make if he sold the entire club, to which he replied £2 billion.
Roy and Jaime have a beer and reaffirm their friendship, but then they fight over Keeley
Jamie (Phil Dunster) chugs his long-awaited beer after Roy (Brett Goldstein) goes to get him a drink. Who knows how long he had to wait for this since he started his training regimen with Roy? The two act perfectly until Keeley (Juno Temple) turns up. Roy didn’t want Jaime to get in the way of his slow build to win Keeley back, but once Jaime confirmed they weren’t official yet, he stubbornly wouldn’t stand by because he felt he was too close to Keeley’s. want to be together Jaime also reveals that the nude video of Keeley that was leaked was made up for her.
The discussion turns into a heated fight that takes place off-screen, until the men show up at Keeley’s front door. They told him what happened and left the decision in his hands. In a surprising but understandable turn of events, Keeley ejects both men and chooses himself. Maybe Kelly was better off alone?

Rebecca tries to get Ted to stay
He told her that with the amount of money she could make from selling a minority stake in AFC Richmond, she could be one of the highest paid coaches. She also told him that if he left, so would she, and that she would sell the entire club. She said that Henry could go to school in England, and Michele could come to teach. All very viable options! Ted quietly declined her offer, knowing that his rightful place was back home with his family.
Roy asked to be a diamond dog
They start looking for video cameras when Nate (Nick Mohammed), Ted, Beard, Trent (James Lance) and Higgins join Diamond to say, “I’m not f—ing here.” Dog Squad.
“Perfect boring,” Beard said when Roy wondered whether he had changed at all. Deep and philosophical as always, Diamond Dogs. Nate the Great shared in his signature optimism that people change. Higgins brought them home saying, “As long as you try, you’re always moving towards better.”
zava sent a care package
and a giant avocado that deserved “holy guacamole” from Jaime Tartt in his glorious Manchurian accent. The star player, who briefly joined the Greyhounds earlier this season, has been retired despite her diva tendencies.

dani got van damme a new mask
The keeper (played by Mo Jeudy-Lamour), whose nose was broken by a kick from Dani in an international game, chose not to leave his clear face mask that protected him from further injury. Mask also raised his level of play as he made a lot of saves. From now on, call him Zorro (versus his original name Zorrex).
The team placed pieces of the faith sign
In what may be the show’s most emotional moment, Ted gazes at the spot where the bright yellow “Believe” sign hung above his office door before Nate tore it down earlier in the series. Sam reached into his locker to retrieve a folded piece of the torn sign to place in the middle of the room. Jaime brought his piece forward. The signature motto for Ted’s “Total Football” philosophy was number 4 all the time!
Isaac takes the penalty kick
And it pierced the net! The fan who caught the end of the kick also had a bloody nose at the end. McAdoo’s (Kola Bokinni) kick initially appeared to have hit the net and missed, but slow-motion capture cameras caught what actually happened, as did the sharp-eyed referee, who was in tears behind the goal. was examined.

ted calls offsides
He finally learned the rules! Ted struggles to learn the offside rule in soccer (or soccer as he learned to call it) for three whole seasons. He said it so casually, putting many people at ease when it was revealed that it meant West Ham didn’t score another goal.
Richmond won, but they still came second in the league
The redheaded Usy Kid from the show’s pilot episode broke the news to viewers as she spoke to Ted at the airport ahead of his trip to Kansas. It wouldn’t be full circle without Ted asking for another “same”.
Rebecca didn’t sell the whole club, and she’s reunited with her Dutch man
“You’re going home to your family, Ted, and I want to be with you,” she said after buying a first-class ticket to bid Ted a proper goodbye. And it turns out that the man she met in Amsterdam works as a flight attendant, and he saw her daughter fall. She went to help the girl child and found her true love. It seems that his mother’s fortune teller was absolutely right.

Coach Beard’s first name is…
Willis! After she and Ted say I love you to each other, Willis pretends to have a burst appendix in order to get off the plane that will take him home to Kansas with Ted.
Roy takes over the club and goes for therapy with Dr. Fieldstone
Rebecca announces Roy as the new manager of AFC Richmond, after which he proudly takes the podium in a new blue coach’s kit to answer burning questions from the press. Beard and Nate remained on staff as well.
the ending montage
Beard and Jane marry at Stonehenge, with Kenneth the bus driver officiating the ceremony. Balder, Brave, from the Blue Moon episode of Coach Beard in Season 2, as Roy Kent attends his wedding with his redheaded wife. Nate, Beard and Roy tape together to hang the Believe sign in the locker room. Sam made the Nigerian national team, and Jaime was reunited with his father, where he was seemingly at peace.
Trent changes the title of his book from “The Lasso Way” to “The Richmond Way” on the advice of Ted, who wrote that it was never really about him. Ted returns to his home, with a Little Free Library in front of him, to his son Henry and is reunited with his wife, Michelle. He ends the episode coaching Henry’s football team. Everyone was shocked to see the lasso behind the number 9 jersey!
