The canceled movie adaptation of Batman Beyond was said to feature a Catwoman romance

The nixed Batman Beyond movie starring Michael Keaton was slated to also revive a romantic storyline involving Catwoman, possibly starring Michelle Pfeiffer.

More details are coming in about the secret Batman over movie that was in the making at DCU. Recently, new rumors have surfaced about the movie, which would serve as both an adaptation of the animated series Batman over as well as an offshoot of The flash. Michael Keaton would return as an older Bruce Wayne to mentor a younger Dark Knight with Christina Hodson’s screenplay (The flash, bat girl).

The project was reportedly dropped after James Gunn and Peter Safran came on board to take control of the DCU’s future plans. Per THR, Hodson had pitched her opinion to Warner Bros. executives. Discovery, who were reportedly “excited” about the film. The screenplay was in the works until, according to the latest report, Gunn and Safran put the kibosh on the film about two weeks after their hiring was announced.

What’s worse for fans of the classic Batman films starring Keaton was that there were also big plans for another major character to appear. The movie is rumored to have featured a rekindled romance between Batman and Catwoman, and it seems likely that the goal would have been for Michelle Pfeiffer to reunite with her. Batman returns co-star to reprise the role. Pfeiffer has even said publicly that she would be open to such a return, so it seems likely it would have happened had the project gone ahead.

“I would consider it,” Pfeiffer told THR earlier in April. “She made the almost impossible combination of sexy, ironic, tragic, dangerous and just plain good.”

The good news for fans angry about the Batman over movie fizzes before it was even officially announced is that doesn’t necessarily mean the show’s characters can’t still appear in the DCU. The THR report notes that Gunn and Safran “might even love” Terry McGinnis, the central character in Batman over who becomes the new Batman after Bruce Wayne’s retirement. But nothing is set in stone, and an appearance in Terry’s DCU won’t be as satisfying as a full-fledged Batman over movie for the fans who have long wanted to see it happen.

Keaton will still be seen as his version of Batman when The flash will be in theaters from June 16, 2023. He would also have been seen bat girl, but that movie was also controversially canceled before Gunn and Safran even got involved in the DCU. It’s another tough break for Hodson with two exciting projects canceled in a row, but at least with Batman overthe whole movie hadn’t been filmed yet.
