The four-year jump of Halloween ends is not explained

Halloween ends is about to bring the story of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode to a new and definitive conclusion, but fans shouldn’t go into the film thinking it’s a direct continuation of Halloween kills. The final film in David Gordon Green’s trilogy begins four years after the events of Halloween killsbut won’t spend time explaining anything about where Michael has been during the missing years.

Halloween Ends is a new ending for the killer William Shatner masked and his nemesis Laurie Strode, ending the new timeline kicked off in 2018 Halloween. Green’s new trilogy picked up where John Carpenter’s original film left off, ignoring the events of all Halloween’s many sequels and created a new timeline where Laurie and Michael are unrelated, and where the killer was caught and imprisoned for 40 years before escaping again to go on another rampage in Haddonfield. Now, Green has revealed that he had no interest in dwelling on where Michael was during the time jump, telling: Total movie:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“We don’t really explain that. It’s like, I don’t want to see where Jaws goes to sleep at night when I’m watching a shark movie…I want to see him when he shows up, and he’s got an appetite!”

Of course, many long-running horror franchises have had similar time jumps, and as Green says, no one really cares what the killer does if they don’t kill. For that reason, probably no one will lose their sleep over what happened in the four years in between Halloween ends and Halloween kills.

The End of Halloween is Jamie Lee Curtis’s Last Time as Laurie Strode

Jamie Lee Curtis became one of the most iconic “last girls” in the horror genre when she first played Strode in 1978. Since then she reprized her role in Halloween: H20 and the sequel, Halloween Resurrectionand also played her role as a horror icon in the TV comedy series scream queen in 2015. However, her return as Strode in 2018’s Halloween gave the character a new lease of life by effectively re-setting her story. Upon completing filming, Curtis shared her “bittersweet” feelings. She said:

“Bittersweet END for me to the Halloween movies. I made great friends and collaborated with great artists on these three movies and today my role in the movie is complete and thus the END for me of this trilogy. It’s all because of the fans who have always supported me and, most importantly, Laurie, and the creative teams of BLUMHOUSE, TRANCAS, MIRAMAX, ROUGHHOUSE and UNIVERSAL and my Strode Strong wives, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak and Kyle Richards, as well as my nemesis, James Judas Courtney.”

Halloween ends may be the last time we’ll see Laurie Stode, but don’t expect this to be Michael Myers’ last performance. After being an iconic horror mainstay for over 40 years, it will only be a matter of time before he once again makes his way through a new group of characters.

Halloween ends comes to cinemas and Peacock on October 14.
