The franchise’s best songs, ranked

In 2015, Disney started a franchise that would follow the next generation of villains. Following the lead of Maleficent’s children, The Evil Queen, Jafar and Cruella de Vil, the descendants franchise would see a story of kids breaking away from their legacy to go their separate ways.

Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos are all selected to leave the Isle of the Lost and go to Auradon, with the option to either break the spell that keeps their evil parents captive on the island, or to truly devote themselves to becoming better people . Love and friendships will spark, and in classic Disney fashion, there are plenty of songs to go around. Here we are going to rank the best songs to come out of this Disney Channel trilogy.

8 Do What You Have To Do – Descendants 3 (2019)

After Princess Audrey attacks Auradon, Mal leaves for the island so she can take her father, the ember of Hades. Joined by Celia, the daughter of Dr. Faciler, Mal confronts her father in what would turn into a duet. Mal sang about how she hated her father for refusing to be a part of her life. Meanwhile, Hades would refuse to take responsibility, singing how Mal should be grateful for his neglect.

Despite the serious subject matter, this song is said to be very upbeat and catchy. Mal would reciprocate her father’s attitude with her signature sass, with Celia providing backup vocals from a safe distance. The choreography and chemistry between Dove Cameron and Cheyenne Jackson jump off the screen, and while the duo doesn’t mend the rift in their relationship at the end of the song, the groundwork is laid in this earwig.

7 Space Between – Descendants 2 (2017)

After conflicting feelings about whether she can indeed be a good person or succumb to her evil nature, Mal Auradon leaves for the Isle of the Lost. Evie and his company would follow them in search of their boyfriend, and when they found her, Evie and Mal began having an honest conversation in one of the most passionate duets in the franchise.

From the very beginning of the song, Mal admits to Evie that she didn’t want to abandon her friends, but that she should listen to her heart. Evie would assure her friend that she wouldn’t get in her way and that they would always be there for each other no matter the distance. While the choreography on most of the songs wasn’t that great, the song’s message is powerful enough to earn it a place on this list.

6 Rotten to the Core- Descendants (2015)

The song that would kickstart the franchise, “Rotten to the Core,” would introduce the main cast with flair. As the quartet would make their entrance, they would all sing about their status on the island, using their words and actions to show that they are unofficially running the island over the other kids.

The choreography in the song is one of the most memorable, with the cast even performing the song and dancing live on television for promotional events. The song’s legacy would continue as there would be a special reprise on the album for Offspring 3 (2019)with the original four and the additions of Uma, Harry, Celia and Audrey.

5 Ways To Be Bad – Descendants 2 (2017)

“Ways to be Wicked” is the opening track of descendants 2 (2017) and sets the bar high for the rest of the film. As the quartet gathers to sing about how many ways they can be evil, the audience is treated to footage of the group plotting to anger all of Auradon with magically enchanted apples.

“Ways to be Wicked” may have just become Mal’s dream sequence, but it still surpasses both “Good to be Bad” and “Rotten to the Core” as the best opening track in the descendants franchisee. This song would remain in the fans’ memory with an expanded ensemble cast and a return to live promotional performances.

4 Queen of Mean – Descendants 3 (2019)

Princess Audrey returns in the third film and is agitated about how the status quo has changed in Auradon. Ironically, during her emotional breakup, born of her grandmother’s disapproval, Audrey took a vicious path with Evie’s mother’s crown and the scepter that once belonged to Mal’s mother.

On her journey to obtain these tools, Audrey started singing. Although the audience is initially concerned that the song will spiral downward, Sarah Jeffrey maintains her composure and uses her musical talent to make this rap-flavored song a hit. As she laments her failure to secure her family’s legacy, Audrey is slowly tormented by the evil power within the scepter and crown and begins to lash out, proclaiming that she will get what she thinks she deserves. .

3 Night Falls – Offspring 3 (2019)

Audrey’s massive attack on Auradon forces the VKs to team up with Uma and her crew. During the adventure of the strange group, they are confronted by armor that comes to life. This would kickstart the third film’s fight song, when the characters get surrounded and start warning each other to “be on your guard”.

Uma and Mal would be at odds during this clash, as both want to lead the group. Evie would prove to be an acceptable moderator, keeping everyone focused on the task and using her own magic to force the armor to dance. The fight choreography would help make this song memorable as well as the notes of Sofia CarsonDove Cameron and China Anne McClain sing in harmony.

2 What’s My Name – Descendants 2 (2017)

China Anne McClain would have a great introduction to the franchise with her debut song as Uma. As the daughter of the sea witch, Ursula, Uma would lead her pirate crew, with Captain Hook’s son Harry as her first mate. Uma commands respect from her crew as she repeatedly commands them to say her name in this rogue song.

While Uma’s choreography and poise throughout the song would show her as a confident woman, she also gives Harry his time to shine. Harry supports Uma well and uses his verses to quickly fire off reasons why she is the best while also suggesting that he is strongly attracted to her. Many fans sang this power ballad as they imagined, leading an army of friends to their cause.
