The Jeffrey Dahmer Story crew member alleges assault during production

A Dahmer production assistant says the Netflix series is one of the “worst shows I’ve ever worked on.”

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has attracted a lot of viewers to Netflix, but with its success has come a lot of controversies. The series has been criticized by some for its macabre content, with some viewers failing to make it through the very first episode. By labeling the series as “LGBTQ” content, Netflix also got into the water, leading to the tag’s removal. Some family members of Dahmer victim Errol Lindsey have also expressed their disapproval of the Netflix hit.

The problem with Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story also extends behind the scenes. Shortly before the series debut on Netflix, production coordinator Kim Alsup posted a message on Twitter claiming she had been assaulted on set. Alsup said this also meant that they were often mistaken for the only other black woman working on the show.

“They kept calling me her name. We both had pigtails, she was dark-skinned and 1.80’s tall. I’m 6’8,” Alsup said. “Working on this cost me everything I had because I was treated terribly. I now look at the black female lead differently too.”

The trailer alone was hard to watch for Kim Alsup

Alsup shared more about her experience working on Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story in an interview with the LA Times. She says she hasn’t been able to watch the series since its debut, as it would likely bring back unhappy memories of the unpleasant production. Alsup happened to see the trailer that she says was enough to give her PTSD, leading to the above tweet going viral.

“I just feel like it’s going to bring back too many memories of working on it,” Alsup says. “I don’t want to have PTSD situations like this. The trailer itself gave me PTSD, which is why I ended up writing that tweet and I didn’t think anyone would read it.

Alsup added: “It was one of the worst shows I’ve ever worked on. I was always called someone else’s name, the only other black girl who looked nothing like me, and I learned the names for 300 background extras.”

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Storystarring Niecy Nash and Evan Peters, will be streamed on Netflix.
