The Rings Of Power is set long before Frodo begins his journey to Mordor, and Robert Aramayo has explained how that makes Elrond very different.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has a very big advantage because it takes place so many years before the Peter Jackson movies that there are very few characters in either story. However, the Elves of Middle-Earth have lived long enough to see two well-known characters be part of both adaptations; Galadriel and Elrond. Numerous comments have been made on social media about the differences between Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel and Cate Blanchett’s LOTR and the hobbit iteration, but little has been said about it Robert Aramayo‘s Elrond and its differences with the older version of Hugo Weaving. Now the actor himself has raised it in a recent interview.
In The rings of powerElrond is much younger and less serious than his older counterpart, and in the final episodes Elrond played an important part in the story when he visited the Dwarf Kingdom of Khazad-dum, a place well known to those with some knowledge of Tolkien’s epic fantasy . However, this is many years before the Balrog makes the Mines of Moria his domain, which is why the dwarf mines are full of life, and that lends itself to some of the story between Elrond and Prince During IV.

“I grew up with those movies, and I like his performance, and I think it’s normal for people to compare the performance. But right now, Elrond is a very young elf with so much to go before we get to the Council of Elrond in The Fellowship of the Ring. He’s been through so many defeats at that point, so I was excited to start with this young elf who still has a lot to learn. That felt like an exciting place to start. He’s going to live thousands upon thousands of human lives until he gets to that point!”
Not all fans have been on board with the changes in the characters of the Elves
Fans of a beloved work of fiction rarely have a unanimous opinion when it comes to screen adaptation. Of The rings of power decades after Peter Jackson brought the definitive version of Tolkien’s core Middle Earth story to cinemas, the comparisons between the two would always draw highly polarized opinions on social media. Whether it’s complaints about Galadriel’s warrior persona or Elrond’s easygoing demeanor, the show’s opening episodes have been heavily criticized.
That didn’t stop the series from drawing much praise or huge ratings, though, and since Season 2 is seemingly going into production soon, that’s good news for Amazon. The series currently has strong reviews from critics, while a continuous wave of mostly disjointed and nonsensical one-star reviews has pushed the audience’s rating down to 39%. But as has been proven time and again, that doesn’t seem to matter when it comes to the popularity or success of a show or movie. With more seasons already set at Amazon, it will take more than some disgruntled fans to keep this epic series from going according to plan.
