Werewolf at night is Marvel’s fast-approaching horror film due out in October. The trailer dropped on D23 and fans have been dissecting it frame by frame ever since to see if they can get a glimpse of what future Werewolf at night could have in the MCU. Fans of the comics know how well the hero is connected to more obscure parts of the Marvel universe, but they also know that those parts aren’t so obscure that they wouldn’t be brought into the MCU. The Werewolf at night trailer let us know about some spicy secrets Marvel is incorporating in this upcoming Halloween special.
Werewolf at night has already revealed some juicy cameos, but more exciting stuff is on the way. There are many conclusions to be drawn from this quick minute and a half of footage. Fans took it apart and discovered quick shots of Man-Thing. Some say Elsa Bloodstone’s appearance is the key to Marvel being a… Midnight sons movie. And a few fans even claim that a mysterious group of soldiers in the trailer is really the TVA coming to solve a raid. There are plenty of questions that have been raised from just a few frames. We’re going to look at these fan theories and see how they all managed to find their way out of this werewolf’s cage.
Werewolf at night makes Midnight Sons
Strangely enough, the Midnight sons haven’t gotten much traction in the MCU so far. The slightly dark group of heroes comes from a series of Marvel stories that pit the group against demons and other infernal villains we haven’t seen in the MCU yet. Certain events in Multiverse of madness and She-Hulk make fans believe there might be even scarier bad guys on the way. And the Midnight sons are slowly becoming more of a possibility in the MCU as more members of the group are brought into the universe. Werewolf at night adds three more.
The Midnight Sons were founded by Doctor Strange, who has been in the MCU for a while. But Phase 4 has created many more opportunities for members of the group. Morbius, yes, that Morbius, was one of the founders. And many more movies and rumors are on the way. Blade was a member of the Midnight Sons for a while, as were some of the little heroes who came in and out of his world. Ghost Rider was also a member, and the “Donny Blaze” by She-Hulk has been rumored to be joining the MCU soon. Werewolf at night will bring in Elsa Bloodstone, Man-Thing and Jack Russell, who were all members of the Midnight sons in some iteration.
Man-Thing and the TVA
Man-Thing appears in the Werewolf at night trailer for a few frames in a fight with someone. That’s easy enough to confirm. But some say his appearance supports the hypothesis that those soldiers with shock sticks are actually TVA agents. It’s easy enough to say, but the argument to support this theory gets complicated. Those soldiers with their armor and weapons certainly look a lot like the TVA, and the Time Variants Authority may very well be invading certain timelines with Kang roaming free. But how would these soldiers from the… Loki series appears in Werewolf at night?
It starts with the idea that Werewolf at night actually takes place in a pocket dimension, similar to where Thor had his fight with Gorr the God Butcher in Love and thunder. When the trailer shows us a wide shot of the ‘city’ where it takes place, there is no horizon, as if the city is surrounded by a wall or simply does not exist beyond a certain point. Some think that the fact that the film was shot in black and white may also contribute to this idea, as the dimension in which we saw Love and thunder was also colorless.
if Werewolf at night is in fact within a pocket dimension, which could mean there are some extra-dimensional jokes going on with this monster hunt, and TVA has shown up to stop them. Part of Man-Thing’s origin story in the comics had him thrown through a portal, so this could be where he ended up.
Fans also point out that Mobius in the first season of Loki, that the TVA had a nightmare department and that they had dealt with monsters before, especially vampires. So, Werewolf at night could take place in some kind of nightmare dimension. If so, it could explain why the TVA’s weapons don’t work the same way we saw them “prune” people into Loki. The nature of this dimension may be one that resists such energy or is simply too detached from the Void for the TVA to send them there. Why they decided to show up to deal with Jack Russell in Werewolf at night, nobody knows. Maybe he’s a variant that shouldn’t exist. Or maybe the TVA’s nightmare department is controlling this pocket dimension in their own way. We’ll have to wait for the movie to find out.
