There’s a New Lightning Thief in the Disney+ Series

Why electricity? The first teaser trailer for Disney’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series is finally here.

In the teaser, which debuted at the D23 Expo on Saturday, we get to see Walker Scobel (“The Adam Project”) as the power thief himself.

“I didn’t want to be Half Blood. Being Half Blood is dangerous,” Percy said, panning the camera at snippets of Camp Half Blood. He warns that, if you even think you might be apart, there are signs It might be best to ignore.

“Once you know what you are, you’ll understand it too, and they’ll come for you,” he says ominously as a closeup of his face before the clip cuts like lightning all around him. It dazzles.

The series, based on the books by Rick Riordan, tells the story of Percy, a 12-year-old modern god who is coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master Lightning Bolt. With the help of his friends Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and Annabeth (Leah Sawa Jeffries), Percy must embark on the adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.

Riordan and the cast spoke with TheWrap on Saturday at D23, where they explained what makes this reboot of the franchise so special.

“It’s going to be, hopefully, a season for every book, which gives us time to do justice to the whole story, unlike a movie where you have to make some cuts,” Riordan said of the series, “Percy fans are waiting” Disney taps three leads.

“They are the perfect embodiment of the characters I created for my son 20 years ago,” he explained. “Grover, Annabeth and Percy for a New Generation.”

Ever since filming began on the series, Riordan has expressed how excited he is to the day when fans will finally be able to set their eyes on the project. “I know I’ve said this before, but wait until you see how great they look on screen,” he wrote in a previous blog post. ,ThisFinally, there’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”

Riordan’s book series has accumulated a huge fanbase and has already spawned two feature films. Logan Lerman played a titular role in those films, with Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth and Brandon T. as Grover. Jackson joined.

The cast for the upcoming series also includes Virginia Kool, Glynn Terman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Tim Sharp, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn and Olivia Morton.

Riordan and John Steinberg wrote the pilot. James Bobin directs. The trio will also executive produce with Dan Schottz, Rebecca Riordan, Burt Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, Anders Angstrom, Jett Wilkinson and The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Wayne, Jeremy Bell and DJ Goldberg.
