‘This Is a Really Long Show’ (Video)

Never send a sports reporter to know the weather.

That’s the lesson KWWL sports reporter Mark Woodley wanted to teach viewers during his live coverage of conditions like the blizzard in Waterloo, Iowa.

The clip, which went viral on Twitter with more than 20 million views, featured his honest feelings about being outside on the morning of December 22 in negative-degree weather.

“This is a really long show. Tune in for the next few hours as I get progressively more irritable and irritable,” he quipped on-air.

Woodley explained to the audience that he was tasked with doing the morning weather report hours before regularly waking up after area sporting events were canceled for — you guessed it — the weather.

“What better time to ask a sports player to come in about five hours earlier than they normally would and stand outside in the wind and snow and cold and tell other people not to do the same?” he told the audience.

And the sarcasm continued: “I didn’t know it was even 3:30 in the morning — until today.”

He then added, “I’ve got good news, and I’ve got bad news. The good news is I can still feel my face. The bad news is I wish I couldn’t.”

Check out Woodley’s original tweet that wraps up his coverage below.

While he covered the weather on Thursday mornings most of the time, his coverage ended him with some new fans in Hollywood, such as judd apatow Tweeting that the sportscaster is “a legend”), david cross Retweeting the clip and NFL Network host Rich Eisen said Woodley’s coverage was “well played”.

Woodley also got some praise from the public in the local Iowa area,

Radio host Todd Bromelkamp shared the news video, writing, “Staying in your lane doesn’t make you a 1-time Iowa Sportscaster of the Year.”

Woodley shared Bromelkamp’s tweet on his own Twitter page, commenting, “This was my wife’s favorite of all time. Good on you.” @ToddBrommelkamp,

The network also shared a news story about Woodley’s segment on its website, which read,no woodley was harmed In the making of the morning newscast.
