To the Moon Review: A Psychologically Thrilling Story of Two Brothers

"Thanks for putting up with me." Such a simple rule holds so much weight in a low-budget but hard-hitting movie like To the moon – whose title does not come from outer space, but from that little line that we pronounce to loved ones ("i love you to the moon"). In the opening moments of the film, Dennis (Scott Friend) thanks his girlfriend Mia (Madeleine Morgenweck) for "sticking out" with him, and we slowly learn why: To the moon explores a weekend getaway gone wrong. The couple’s impromptu retreat turns into a hallucinatory nightmare after Dennis’ estranged brother (scene-stealing Will Brill) arrives unannounced and begins to play with their senses while warping their sense of reality. It’s a slow-burning thrill ride that is sure to appeal to a niche audience.
