On Sunday, October 9 at New York Comic Con, the cast and creators of CWs The Winchesters debuted the first episode of the series in a special showing. It was also announced during the panel that: smallville alum Tom Welling join the supernatural spin off. The first episode of The Winchesters aired on The CW on October 15.
Set in the 1970s, the series is told from the perspective of supernatural‘s Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles, who created The Winchesters starring Daneel Ackles), which tells the story of how his parents, John Winchester (Drake Rodger) and Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly), fell in love and fought monsters together. When John returns from his fighting in Vietnam, he sets out on a mission to track down his father’s past. On his journey, he crosses paths with 19-year-old demon hunter Mary, who is also looking for answers after her father’s disappearance. John and Mary help uncover the hidden truths about both of their families through Latika (Nida Khurshid), a young fighter in training, and Carlos (Jonathan “Jojo” Fleites), an easygoing hunter.
Directed by Glen Winter and written by Robbie Thompson, the official description of the first episode reads:
Their investigation leads them to a rare bookstore whose owner, Ada (Demetria McKinney), has an interest in the occult and could supply the missing pieces to their puzzle. But the secrets run deep for both the Winchesters and Campbells. Despite the best efforts of John’s mother Millie (Bianca Kajlich) to protect her son from pursuing a perilous life of demon-hunting, John and Mary are both determined to work together to preserve their families’ legacies while maintaining a to start their own family.
Tom Welling plays Samuel Campbell
Tom Welling plays Samuel Campbell. The actor is best known for the role of Clark Kent on smallvillea series on which The WinchestersExecutive Producer Jensen Ackles also starred in 22 episodes. The actor starred in the FOX series Match as Lt. Marcus Pierce/Cain from 2017 to 2018. The role of Samuel Campbell was first played by Mitch Pileggi in supernatural.
Welling will make his debut as Samuel Campbell in episode 7. “Samuel taught Mary everything he knows. Scruffy and pragmatic, he’s a skilled fighter who prefers action over words – and it’s always his way or the highway,” reads the character description. “But when Samuel teams up with Mary and her friends to save the world, not only will he have to defeat the most dangerous monster he’s ever seen – he’ll also have to mend his broken relationship with his daughter.”
