Trevor Noah Explains Why He’s Leaving The Daily Show

Fans may be sad to see Trevor Noah stepping out as host of “The Daily Show” later this year, but for Noah himself, it’s a “happy” moment. On Thursday night, the host explained that he really feels like he’s going out on a high note.

Noah first announced his departure at the end of taping for the episode to air on Thursday, September 29, noting that that week marked his seven-year anniversary with “The Daily Show.” Sitting down with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” Thursday, Noah was pressured as to why he was leaving, and baffled by the fact that people are so upset by it.

The host of the “Daily Show” said she feels “everyone has gone through a phase of watching their lives” thanks to the pandemic, myself included.

“I guess if you don’t look at your life, and think about what you want to do differently, you haven’t experienced what we’ve all experienced, you know?” Noah explained. “And therefore, I consider it a pleasure.”

Noah said he thinks it’s best to go out when people are still enjoying him in the role, and while he’s still enjoying the job himself.

“Because imagine it was the other way around. I go, ‘I’m leaving’ and people are like, ‘Yeah…'” he joked. “Leave it while it’s still good, leave it when you still love it when you have the energy to enjoy it. I still have three months to have fun with everyone on the show, and I am going
to do that.”

As far as what he’s going to do next, Noah revealed that he plans to do “everything” after hosting — starting with going back to his stand-up comedy roots, and going back to the world. I once again start playing the show.

“I’m so excited to do everything. I haven’t had the chance to travel as much around the world to stand out. I’m excited for it — I used to go to a country and I’d be there for the end of the week. or learn about the culture,” Noah said. “I’m going back to do that. You know, creating, like working behind the camera again, working on different ideas. You know, going back home to South Africa to spend more time with family. Everything is what I’m going to do.”
