Trevor Noah doesn’t think Democrats should be helping their Republican opponents in any way with these midterms. In fact, he feels it is “extremely reckless” to do so – especially in the form of monetary contributions – if the only reason for that support is to ease his own campaign.
Appearing on “Alex Wagner Tonight” on Wednesday, the “Daily Show” host began the discussion by explaining that Donald Trump has not lost sight of the media because “America has been between news and entertainment for so long. The lines have blurred.” As a result, entertainment itself became news. “And if there’s one thing that Donald Trump has always known how to do, it’s how to be entertaining,” he said.
Noah noted that he thinks the media certainly learned a lesson from dealing with Trump, but the Democrats running for office certainly haven’t.
“The fact that there are still Democratic, you know, machines that are funding extreme Republicans, like basically pushing them. I think that is gross negligence,” Noah said. You know, forget everything you’re trying to do in life, it’s gross negligence to say, ‘I believe this person is going to destroy democracy. But you know what I’ll do? I’m going to take the money people have donated to our campaigns and use it to advance them, because I think they’ll be easier to beat.
He continued: “But are you willing to take the risk that this guy might be easy to beat? You don’t remember what happened to Donald Trump? It turns out he was harder to beat than you thought. “
In fact, Democrats have spent a lot of money this election cycle making them think far-right candidates will be easier to beat. According to newsweekAs of August this year, Democrats spent nearly $44 million on advertising campaigns in races in six states, helping far-right candidates win their primaries.
