Trump’s ‘America Needs a Superhero’ Announcement Mocked by The Boys Showrunner

Former US President Donald Trump calls himself the ‘superhero’ America needs, but such a proclamation does not go unnoticed The boys show runner Eric Kripke. Consisting of three seasons so far with a fourth in the making, The boys satirizes superhero fiction with a heavy dose of social commentary, while spilling large amounts of gore in often bizarre ways. Antony Starr’s character Homelander, a murderous and corrupt superhero who masquerades as a friendly American hero, has often drawn comparisons to Trump, with Kripke previously admitting that the controversial 45th president has inspired moments from the show.

Now Trump is making waves with his announcement that “AMERICA NEEDS A SUPERHERO”. posted on his social media platform Truth Social. The former president said a “major announcement” is coming on Thursday, and this was hyped with a music video featuring artwork of Trump transforming into a Superman-esque superhero. The video animates lasers shooting from Trump’s eyes, a superpower possessed by Superman. Of course, Homelander has that ability too, and for Kripke, this all makes it far too easy to compare Trump to the villainous “Supe.”

“Come on. He’s making it too easy,” Kripke tweeted, posting a screenshot of the Trump video alongside a Homelander photo.

Kripke has described one moment in particular The boys that was directly inspired by Donald Trump. In Season 3, there is a scene where the Homelander character “shoots” someone in the street as his fans cheer him on. Kripke previously told deadline that the scene was based on the famous quote where Trump said he wouldn’t lose any voters even if he “stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone.”

“Could we take Homelander to the point where we literally kill someone on Fifth Avenue and then be applauded for it? It’s funny,” Kripke said. “It’s like at the time we wrote it, we felt like it was kind of satirically pushed, but it’s true that the more horrible politicians act, you know, the more popular they become with their fanbase.”

That is not to say that only the right is criticized The boys. The show also features a character very reminiscent of Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, and as a politician who is secretly a supervillain, she hasn’t been portrayed in the most flattering light either. Maybe no one is safe when it comes down to it The boyswho is certainly not known for pulling punches in any way.

The first three seasons of The boys stream on Prime Video.
