Vampire Academy is canceled after one season with Peacock

Peacock is also axing One of Us Is Lying after a two-season run.

More shows have ended almost as quickly as they began, this time at NBCUniversal’s Peacock. On Friday, deadline revealed that the new series Vampire Academy is one of the last shows to be canceled. It’s quickly coming to a close after just one season and will premiere on Peacock in September. Reviews were mostly positive and Peacock executives were reportedly creatively pleased with the show, but viewership was not high enough to warrant ordering a second season.

Based on Richelle Mead’s book series, Vampire Academy was developed for Peacock by Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre. The series is unrelated to the 2014 film of the same name, which was also an adaptation of the original books. The show stars Sisi Stringer as Rose Hathaway, a Dhampir guardian in training, alongside Daniela Nieves as a Moroi princess vampire as the two attend St Vladimir’s Academy.

The show also stars Andre Dae Kim, Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Mia McKenna-Bruce, Jonetta Kaiser, Andrew Liner, Rhian Blundell, and J. August Richards. It is executive produced by Plec and MacIntyre along with Emily Cummins, Don Murphy, Susan Montford, Deepak Nayar and Jillian DeFrehn.

That has also turned out One of us is lying has been abolished at Peacock after two seasons. The show originally premiered in 2021 and scored a renewal for season 2 in early 2022. The second season premiered in October, and as with Vampire Academy, Peacock was happy with the series itself, but not so much the low viewership.

Developed by Erica Saleh, One of us is lying is based on the novel by Karen M. McManus. It follows a group of high school students suspected of the death of a fellow student, each with their own possible motive. The cast included Annalisa Cochrane, Chibuikem Uche, Marianly Tejada, Cooper van Grootel, Barrett Carnahan, Jessica McLeod, Mark McKenna, Melissa Collazo, Sara Thompson and Alimi Ballard. Erica Saleh served as showrunner for Season 2, after Dario Madrona filled that role for the first season.

Not all hope is lost for any of these shows, however, following their respective cancellations. Plans are being made to buy both Vampire Academy and One of us is lying elsewhere, so these stories can continue if another streaming service or network expresses interest. For now, you can watch the two shows on Peacock.
