WGA strike halts final season of ‘Stranger Things’

Unrest between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers has delayed the fifth and final season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”

The show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, took to Twitter to share the news.

“The writing doesn’t stop when filming starts,” he tweeted. “While we are excited to resume production with our amazing cast and crew, this is not possible during this strike. We hope that a proper settlement is reached soon so that we can all get back to work. Till – over and over again. #wgastrong.

No new start date has been set.

The popular show has joined several shows like “Big Mouth” and “Cobra Kai” which are facing delays due to the writers’ strike.

Since the strike, production of various shows including late night shows on network television has ceased. Streaming services have been the focus of the strike with the guild that, although revenue and budgets have increased, writers’ share of that money has not and in some cases continues to shrink.

Representatives for Netflix did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
