The 1992 sports comedy film White men can’t jump reboots with an all-new cast, but the filmmakers hope two main protagonists from the original film will return for the updated version. Written and directed by Ron Shelton, the original movie starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson like a bunch of street ballers who take advantage of the perception that white men can’t be adept at basketball. The film was a box office hit with generally positive reviews, although somehow it never got a sequel or a remake… until now.
In recent years Kenya Barris has been working hard on a remake of White men can’t jump Off the ground. The project started getting serious attention this year with Sinqua Walls (American soul) and rapper Jack Harlow who signs up to play roles similar to the characters played by Snipes and Harrelson in the original. Barris co-wrote the screenplay for the reboot with Doug Hall, while Calmatic was brought in to direct the feature film.
Other actors in the film include Lance Reddick, Teyana Taylor and Laura Harrier. There is no indication whatsoever that Snipes and Harrelson will make an appearance, but as I recently spoke with TMZ, Barris suggested the two could still appear in the reboot. Here’s what he had to say when asked if the OG actors are out White men can’t jump will be featured in the new version.
‘I hope so! We’ll try. We’d love to have them.’
It should be noted that filming on the project has reportedly been completed over the summer, so if Snipes and Harrelson weren’t brought in for the sequel, it might be too late for it to happen, but it’s still possible with reshoots. Another possibility is that the two actors were secretly brought in for cameos and Barris just doesn’t want to spoil the surprise. It’s also possible that the two will not be involved in the reboot in any way, but that Barris has not yet been willing to give the press a clear answer to that question. Anyway, we’ll just have to wait and see if the cameos eventually happen.
Woody Harrelson said in 2017 he wouldn’t be interested

While Harrelson said it was “cool” to see the film remade, he suggested he would not appear in any capacity.

Hell, I hope it’s better than the original! But… I don’t see going down, and going to Venice, and pumping up my sneakers.”
It’s been several years, so maybe Harrelson has changed his mind. For now there is no release date for the new one White men can’t jump.
