Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers and discusses the entirety of “The Midnight Club” Season 1.
Episode 10 of Netflix’s “The Midnight Club,” aptly titled “Midnight,” delivers on a plethora of promises made at the start of the season: We’re going to be quasi-cult leader Shasta (Samantha Sloane). ) learn the backstories of; Sandra (Annara Simone), who was diagnosed with a false terminal diagnosis, leaves Brightcliffe; Kevin (Igby Rigne) finally ends his evergreen tale of a teenager forced to kill because of a generational curse, and Ilonka (Iman Benson) ends his story about the bond between a witch mother and daughter. Oh, and two loving fools finally kiss!
But in the episode’s final moments, Dr. Georgina Stanton (“A Nightmare on Elm Streets” Heather Langenkamp) — who reprimanded Ilonka for her dangerous involvement with Shasta’s iteration of the mysterious Paragon — wears her wig, revealing a baldness. She takes off her head (presumably indicating her to undergo chemotherapy) and a neck tattoo of the cult’s half-filled hour symbol. What’s the make of it, and what do the cast want to see in Season 2?
“I have a wild idea: I think it would be great if Stanton, at least once, joined Midnight Club and told a story of his own,” Rigney told TheWrap. “I think that would be so dope.”
Her co-star, Chris Sumpter, who plays Spence, has other thoughts: “I hope we get bloodshed. I hope it’s just bloody – dead people everywhere. I think so [co-creator and EP] mike [Flanagan] Just really sends a lot of people to the grave,” he said, laughing at Rigne (as well as confused looks from Adia, who portrays Cheri, and mild anxiety from Ruth Codd, who is Anya). .
When asked to clarify whether he meant deaths in the real world of Brightcliffe Manor or in the story world of the inhabitants, Sumpter replied, “In all cases. I want to see death, that’s what interests me.” ”
But Stanton’s true motivation isn’t the only question that remains unanswered in the unanswered, horrifying series. Who are those old ghosts that only Ilonka and Kevin see? In Christopher Pike’s book of the same name, paranormal creatures are meant to be elderly representatives of members of the Midnight Club who prematurely lose their lives. (The YA show itself adapts many of Pike’s stories, some explored in the eponymous episodes, and the writer serves as executive producer.)
“I’m a really old man and Igby is an old woman in a different life,” Benson explained.
Rigne said, “I think the main theme with that idea is the idea of reincarnation and soul mates or people living together. Hopefully that’s where that’s going.”
Flanagan himself offered his tease, and promised resolution should the series be renewed for Season 2.
“it was the first” [series] I worked on what was designed to continue,” the “Haunting of Hill House” and “Midnight Mass” showrunner said in a separate interview. “I don’t know if [Season 2] What will happen. We’ll have to see, but if it doesn’t, I promised everyone at Comic-Con yesterday that I’d put all the answers to the central mysteries on Twitter, which I’d respect. But yeah, the show was designed to move forward and we made the decision not to reveal our two big existential secrets to the show in the writers’ room so we had something to say in the second season.
