Zoe Saldana suggests that Avatar 3 may not be as complete as James Cameron says

James Cameron has suggested that in recent months avatar3‘s production is complete in terms of filming, but star Zoe Saldana has seemingly contradicted that by stating that she’s returning to finish the movie in the summer.

Avatar: the way of the water And avatar3 would have been filmed back to back, leading to mega production costs being split between the two films. While James Cameron has discussed his 9-hour cut of the film, which has been rumored to be headed to Disney+ as a series, it appears filming isn’t quite as complete as he’s claimed in several interviews. Speak with Entertainment tonight, Saldaña said that there is still quite a bit of filming to be done. She noted:

“Yeah, I mean, we’re going back this summer and finish it. We are 70% ready there. But we have time.”

She’s certainly not wrong that they have time, as the movie won’t hit theaters until December 2024. Still, it’s strange that her assessment of how complete the filming is contradicts previous statements about the film’s shooting. Anyway, there still seems to be a long way to go for the second sequel in the avatar franchise. The CGI-heavy post-production has already led to rumors that the movie could potentially be pushed back from its current release date if Cameron isn’t completely happy with the final product.

James Cameron is not one to usually make films that stay in the same territory for a long time. That certainly applies to him avatar movies, in which the late 2022 sequel expanded the world first introduced in 2009. In avatar3, it looks like Cameron is about to do the same thing again. In previous comments, the writer/director explained that he has a vision for that avatar 3, but some can be changed depending on the response to Avatar: the way of the water. He said:

“I’m going to take a moment when the dust settles to review what people loved and what they responded to the most in this current release, and maybe I’ll go back and tinker a bit, and maybe we’ll go back and do a couple of moments here and there it’s not going to be radical but maybe refine it a bit to highlight what people are responding to for example Lo’ak really emerged as a character that people interacted with so I might find ways to.. now he’s already the narrator – oh I’m giving something away here… But this is okay, I think it can be intriguing for people to think about what’s to come.

Avatar: the way of the water arrived in theaters as possibly one of the biggest financial disasters of the century if audiences didn’t buy back the franchise after a 13-year absence from movie theaters.
