“Top Gun: Maverick,” “Stranger Things” and “The Last of Us” lead the field of nominees for the MTV Movie and TV Awards, with six nominations each, the network announced Wednesday.
Drew Barrymore (who is also nominated for hosting her own self-titled talk show), will host the ceremony, which will broadcast live on Sunday, May 7 beginning at 8 pm ET/PT from the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, California.
Among the most colorful categories in this gender-neutral, cross-genre competition are Best Villain, which pits characters from movies and TV against each other, including the killer ballerina doll from “M3GAN,” the creepy monster Upside Down Vecna from “Stranger Things,” ” and the CGI main character from “Cocaine Bear.” They will go head-to-head with Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and Harry Styles in “Don’t Worry Darling.”
A new category this year is “Best Kick-Ass Cast,” which pits the ensemble from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” against the teams from the teams from “Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania,” “Teen Wolf: The Movie,” and the Netflix series “Outer Banks” and “Stranger Things.”
