CBS station KPIX-TV pauses on Twitter; Elon Musk interviews Donald Trump – Deadline

One of CBS’ West Coast affiliates has suspended its postings and interactions on Twitter amid ongoing uncertainty about the social media platform’s future.

KPIX-TV naturally took to Twitter to announce the news, saying it would pause its activities while continuing to monitor the platform.

KPIX-TV is a San Francisco-licensed television station that airs CBS programming in the Bay Area. It is owned and operated by the network’s CBS News and Stations division along with CW affiliate KBCW, also licensed to serve San Francisco.

It’s worth noting that neither the main @CBS account (1.2 million followers) nor @CBSNews (8.8 million followers) have posted any tweets in the last 18 hours.

The move follows another week of uncertainty on Twitter after new boss Elon Musk announced on Friday that the company’s offices would be closed over the weekend. Earlier in the week, he sent out a directive to all employees calling for an oath of allegiance and a redoubling of efforts. Musk gave his remaining workforce (having laid off about half of the existing workforce when he bought the company) until Thursday to sign up for “long, high-intensity work hours” or to leave.

#RIPTwitter, #TwitterDown, Mastodon, and Myspace all began trending on the platform after Musk’s ultimatum deadline passed. Meanwhile, Musk has rehired some high-profile users of the platform, including Kathy Griffin and Jordan Peterson, though he has yet to make a decision on Donald Trump’s return. On Saturday morning, Musk polled supporters about Trump’s reinstatement — with 9 million votes cast so far, the poll sits around 50-50.
