Kaitlyn Collins asks John Kirby if he’s seen Donald Trump’s comments about Ukraine — without mentioning the CNN town hall, his own role as moderator, or even Donald Trump’s name — A sly plug if there ever was one, and for the network’s new Bravo 9 p.m. host for that little bit of dodged finesse.
Collins was interviewing Kirby, the national security spokesman for the Biden administration, when she danced this graceful side-step on Wednesday:
“Just one question on Ukraine before we have another topic for you, John,” Collins said. “I know you represent the White House right now and you have to be careful … When you heard the former president and Republican leader say last week that he can’t say whether he wants Ukraine to win this war ? ,
Then, it was as if a secret hand had reached out to Kirby, instructing him not to utter the words “Donald,” “Trump,” “CNN,” “town” or “hall.”
“Well, you’re right, Kaitlan,” she replied, acting completely normal and not at all like anything strange had happened. “I’m not here at the National Security Council to talk about politics at liberty, and I certainly won’t talk about comments made on the campaign trail and during election season. All I can tell you is that President Biden We’ve been very clear that we want Ukraine to succeed. We want to see them win. We want to see Ukraine whole and independent, and prosperous, and completely independent, and that’s what we’re focused on.”
Kirby said many other things about the subject, but did not utter the above words.
