The Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan starrer Vikram Vedha has shown a mean trend at the box office over the opening weekend. After opening at Rs. 10.58 crore on Friday, the film rose 25% on Saturday to collect Rs. 12.51 crores. This was followed by another 15% jump on Sunday with estimates indicating numbers in the range of €14.50 to 15 crores. This puts Vikram Vedha’s opening weekend in the range of Rs. $38 million.

This is a good result for a movie that started at Rs. $10 million, but a disappointing result for a movie starring Hrithik Roshan. The film should have been in the north of Rs for a weekend. 50 crores, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. The film has done well in the multiplexes; however, the mass belts surprisingly didn’t make it on board the film despite the action-packed treatment.

Vikram Vedha has tackled the remake factor alongside the bottom line marketing and promotion campaign. It is not a losing battle yet as Vikram Vedha is to remain stable for the next 4 days and finish the opening week with about Rs. 68 million dollars. This will allow the film to hit some bumps again on the 2nd weekend and reach some that can be considered a respectable outcome, if not more.

Business in places like Gujarat has been influenced by Navratri celebrations while some parts of Kolkata and Bihar are influenced by Durga Pooja. These centers should have a better grip from Wednesday, as the festive flavor will finally kick in from then on.

The weekend business is in the same range as Akshay Kumar’s historical epic, Samrat Prithviraj, and better than the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera. It is also better than the holiday releases like Bachchan Paandey, Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha. The reports are pretty decent and there is hope in the reports to support the film in the longer term.
