Doll told Fox ‘this show will never work’

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Wednesday night’s episode of “The Masked Singer”

Wednesday night marked the end of the road for Doll on “The Masked Singer,” but as it turns out, we almost met her on that stage a long time ago — like, eight seasons ago.

Despite coming into Wednesday as the reigning champion, Doll was unable to extend her streak for another week. At the end of the night, it was revealed that Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider was the man behind the mask (which, in fact, a lot of fans came to know Very early, Turns out, Snyder was actually asked to be a part of the show’s inaugural season in the US

“Okay, okay, I’m going to tell you a little secret. They asked me to stay on for the first season. I said, ‘No, this show will never work,’” Snyder told TheWrap with a laugh. “Cut to season nine later, and they call and go, ‘Are you ready to commit now?’ I’m like ‘Yeah! I was wrong, I admit it. You were right, it’s a Big show, people love it. Yes. Thanks again for asking me!'”

And Snyder will be the first to admit that he’s had poor judgment on other projects in the past.

“I did the same thing with Sharknado,” he explained. “They told me to be in the first, I go, ‘This will never work!’ Six film cuts later, there I am in Romania, dressed as a cowboy, ‘I was wrong, you were right, it was a big movie.’ So anyway, yeah, it’s a lot of fun.

Of course, Snyder admits that both his wife and his management made sure to give him a shout out to go on the show this time around. But, he also wanted to show people that he could be much more than the hardcore singer of “Twisted Sister.”

“I was really worried to see people, you know, not just going, ‘We’re not going to —’. You know, doing it,” Snyder said. “I mean, I did a show on Broadway called ‘Rocktopia.’ And in the show, I sang Led Zeppelin, I sang Aerosmith, I sang opera. And every night, I would sign outside the sage gate. People come up and say, ‘Dee, I didn’t know you could sing!'”

Dee Snyder Supports Ukrainians 'We're Not Gonna Take It', But Not Anti-Vaxers

“I’ll go, ‘What?’ They’d go, ‘I didn’t know you could sing!’ I used to go, ‘Well what do you think I’m past 40…?’ And they go, ‘Oh, but she’s Twisted Sister.’ … They were surprised because they didn’t expect that from Dee Snider. So I was looking forward to more opportunities to show that [with ‘The Masked Singer’],

That said, another part of him was totally fine with it ending after just two episodes.

“It is very difficult. And I cannot express that to you,” he said. “When you are in it, you are very disconnected from the outside world. You’ll have earpieces and you just — it’s weird. So at that stage, you can’t wait to take that thing off.”

“The Masked Singer” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
