The January 6 select committee voted unanimously on Thursday to summon Donald Trump, after destroying new evidence from the Secret Service presented at his latest hearing. And if the twice-impeached president does come to testify, Seth Meyers is pretty sure it’ll look like gleaming in a wild beast.
Granted, the late-night host has little doubt that Trump will even comply with a subpoena. But if he does, he expects it to be really “crazy”.
“Now they summoned him, but can you imagine Donald Trump following a summons from the January 6 committee? It would be crazy to see him testify before Congress,” Meyers joked. K used to boast crazy, and attack people. It would be like casting a real lion in ‘The Lion King’. Yeah, it was good for a second, but then it took off Rudy Giuliani’s face.”
Meyers then turned his attention to a campaign stop made by Trump over the weekend, during which he complained that the media didn’t pay enough attention to how crowded Jan 6 was. He called the media “corrupt” again, because they would “never take a camera and turn it around and show them how many people are here.”
Of course, this statement is false because there was enough footage of the attacks on the Capitol showing how many people were entering and destroying the building illegally. And Meyers hasn’t hesitated to let Trump know, arguing that the claim of a twice-impeached president offers some new insight.
Meyers joked, “There’s never been better evidence that Trump isn’t watching the January 6th hearing, because you see so few pictures of it.” “Man, they’re showing pictures of it all the time!”
