As reported by Weekly entertainmentstar Alex Essoe recently thought about her career in horror entertainment. The actor has appeared in a number of horror projects, including Radiant eyes and Mike Flanagan’s The shining follow-up Doctor Sleepas well as three of Flanagan’s TV shows, The Ghost of Bly Manor, Midnight MassAnd The midnight club. But despite having a long horror resume, Essoe noted that she is not a fan of certain genres of horror.
“I like some kinds of horror movies. I’ve never been good with slashers and superfluous things. There are some exceptions, but it’s really hard for me to see people die for no reason. I always think, ‘Oh my god, these people have a family, and dreams, and lovers, and they get killed just because they had sex!’ I don’t begrudge people that they like those movies, it’s just hard for me. Even the horror that I’ve done, I’ve tried to go for more alternative stuff, alternative themes, something that has an idea behind it.”
While she thinks about her work in Radiant eyesEssoe said, “It’s still something I’m incredibly proud of, not just because of the work I got to do, which was amazing, but I just loved the themes of it so much. It was so crazy how ahead of its time it was it. I’m very proud of that too.”
The actor then spoke about her role in 2015 Stories about Halloween. She said: “I was so glad I got to meet Stuart Gordon before he passed away which was really sad because he’s one of my favorite directors. He’s from the theater too, just like me. It was really nice to be able to talk with him on that level. Dolls is also one of my favorite horror movies, maybe ever, so I need to dig into that.”
Alex Essoe said working with Mike Flanagan on Doctor Sleep was ‘a total Pinch Myself moment’
As regards Doctor Sleepsaid the star: “It was a pinch myself moment, because The shining is one of my favorite Kubrick movies. And Mike, who is so respectful of source material and fans, it was very important to him to recreate the interior of the Overlook exactly, with the same materials, the same color palette and the same everything.”
“It was really great to be able to walk through the Overlook Hotel and get into Room 237 and that bathroom, and I had a whiskey in the Gold Room and I threw a tennis ball against the side of the Colorado Lounge. Even on my days off I started hanging out on set. I have my own movie aspirations, so I shadowed Mike and just observed. The cast was incredible too. It really was a masterclass in filmmaking, being there and watching it all go down.”
The actor also talked about 2020s Dead of mesaying, “Darren Bousman is a hilarious and amazing human being. He’s so funny, I hope I get to work with him on something else. We shot in Thailand, which, I’m not going to lie, is just a great perk – incredibly warm people beautiful I could live there tomorrow And I got to work with Maggie Q who is such a force of nature I’ve never met anyone who is so much in common It was inspiring Because I’m a mess It is like being an artist! There’s a reason why I don’t work in an office! I learned a lot working with her.”
Essoe then spoke about her other collaborations with Flanagan and pointed out the challenges he brings.
“Mike always gives me something challenging to do. He always gives me something outside of my comfort zone and something I haven’t explored before. I find myself incredibly flattered by that that he would entrust me with these characters that are so different. off the beaten track and is such a challenge. I definitely feel like I’ve grown as an actor now that I’ve worked with him.”
Essoe concluded by discussing her most recent project, The Pope’s exorcist.
“I didn’t know he was starring in the movie until I got the job. I had no idea. It was quite a surprise. I don’t know if ‘unnerving’ is the right word, but it’s surreal. Sure, because Russell Crowe really is the type of actor I aspire to be. He really is a real artist and a real master and there really aren’t many like him. We played tennis and on the last day we all got little trophies that he made. was really cool.’
