Jason Momoa focuses on the future as Aquaman amid new leadership at DC Studios

Jason Momoa responded to rumors that he’s done as Aquaman after the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The future of the DCU isn’t entirely clear at this point as DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran map out projects for the next decade, and for fans, many of their favorite superheroes are currently in limbo. It’s been made clear that some DC projects have been canceled outright, with that controversially including an end to Henry Cavill’s return as Superman. Meanwhile there are others Justice League characters, such as Jason Momoa‘s Aquaman, where it’s hard to tell if we’ll see them again or not.

For the past few months, Momoa has been teasing that a dream project of his will come true thanks to Gunn and Safran. That’s led to rumors that he’s been cast as Lobo for a movie or series set in the DCU. If that’s indeed the case, that could also mean Momoa is done as Aquaman, potentially rounding out his run with that role with the upcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Those rumors were reignited after Momoa recently teased some exciting news that will be announced shortly following a meeting with Warner Bros. and DC Studios.

Now the actor is trying to clear the air a bit as the rumor mill runs wild. Momoa spoke to Variety and made some comments that seem to suggest he’s not done yet Aquarius finally noting that he “always will be” that character. At the same time, he also appears to be further teasing a possible casting as Lobo, noting that staying in the role of Aquaman doesn’t mean he can’t play other characters as well. Does this mean both Aquarius 3 and Lobo: the movie starring Jason Momoa on the horizon?

In a new chat with Variety, Momoa commented on his meeting. He still can’t give details, but he goes on to tease that “a lot of good things” are on the way, suggesting he may have several good news to share rather than just one big announcement.

“It was very, very amazing,” explains Momoa. “I’m at the Warner Bros. house, and they like a lot of the things I do. A lot of good things are coming.”

On the rumors that he could leave the role, Momoa added, “I’ll always be Aquaman,” added Momoa. “The rumors are… I’ll always be Aquaman. Nobody comes in there and takes sh*t. And then there could be other characters. I can play other things too. I can be funny and fierce and charming, occasionally please.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be released in theaters on December 25, 2023, after several delays.
