Katie Porter Reps Piers Morgan For Comparing Outdated Tennessee Reps To Jan. 6th Protesters

Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) didn’t hold back her anger at Piers Morgan, who seemed as though he was drawing comparisons to Jan. 6. Bill Maher supported him all the way.

Porter, Morgan and actor Benjamin McKenzie joined Maher on his weekly show “Overtime” on CNN, which follows “Real Time with Bill Maher” on HBO on Friday nights. The first question raised by the audience was about the Tennessee delegates facing the blast. When Maher noted that they used bullhorns, Morgan jumped in and compared them to the Capitol rioters. And Porter was having none of it.

“And [they] disrupted the proceedings, which, of course, when on January 6th took place in a much larger and more violent manner, with all but one present cheering the two Tennessee legislators, who were condemning and appalling what had happened, were condemning him,” Morgan said, interrupting Maher’s introduction of the subject.

Porter replied, “You’re not really comparing.”

“No, no, I’m not,” Morgan replied defensively.

“You really just made a comparison,” she threw back at him.

Morgan took a moment to collect his thoughts and then tried to explain what he was trying to say.

“No — no. Here’s the comparison I’m making,” Morgan said. “When you have a crowd of protesters, and they’re going into a legislative chamber, whether it’s at the Capitol or in Tennessee, the principle is the same. And if you don’t have the same principle response to both of those things, principle, regardless of scale.

But Porter wasn’t buying what Morgan was selling and set the record straight on how the two are nowhere near the same.

“Listen, the theory is different,” began Porter. “They were the Tennessee legislature — legislators who went into the chamber and broke the rules of propriety partly because they were being silenced when they wanted to follow the rules of propriety about gun violence prevention.”

He said, “What happened on January 6th was a bunch of bat-t’s, crazy f–cursers with guns. Who killed the cops! Pierce, it’s not the same.”

Morgan was trying to make a point of what the Tennessee legislators were saying at the protest and agreed with their position on guns. “I just think, in the end, you have to be consistent about the way you look —,” she began, only for Maher to interrupt her.

“It’s a terrible analysis,” Maher said. “Why bring it up? It’s a terrible analogy.
