Prem Bandhan actress Saarvie Omana reveals getting rejected due to her dusky complexion; questions why ‘fair is lovely?’ [EXCLUSIVE]

For a long time, the world of showbiz was obsessed with light skin. But over the years, the concept has changed. There are many dark-skinned actresses who have made it big in television and Bollywood. Many have even talked about the challenges they have faced. The latter is actress Saarvie Omana who has been a part of many TV shows like Prem Bandhan, Dharm Yoddha Garud and more. She was also part of Akshay Kumar’s film Laxmii. She spoke about how she considers her dark skin to be her USP, despite receiving several rejections for the same.

Saarvie Omana says her skin color is her USP

Saarvie shared that she attended many auditions where she was rejected only on the basis of her skin color, but she was determined to make it big and believed in herself. She said she sometimes showed up for a beauty product photo shoot and the production house would tell her the shoot will be tomorrow. But it wouldn’t happen if she were rejected. She can’t believe that even today people are still judged by body shape and skin color. Especially in a country like India.

The actress was quoted as saying, “First, it’s hard to stomach that even in the current era people are judging the parameters of body shape and skin color. In India it actually always starts as a joke (between friends or family) like Yeh toh kaali ya phir moti hai.” So even to say this in front of someone as a joke shouldn’t be acceptable per se. But to be honest I believe my skin color is my USP and I’m the kind of person that never believed in the definition of beauty as others do. I am comfortable with my dark skin tone and have never tried to change it to get a lighter complexion. Our country has predominantly brown skin and I don’t understand why only “is fair” beautiful”? The greatest need is to shun this regressive mindset and rather embrace all standards of beauty.”
