Mani Ratnam magnum opus Ponniyin Selvanin other words PS1 released last week received an impressive response from the public. The epic saga about the Chola Empire and its heirs features an ensemble cast with Jayam Ravi playing the roles of Arulmozhi Varman aka Ponniyin Selvan and Chiyaan Vikram as his brother, Aditya Karikalan and Trisha Krishnan as their sister, Kunadavai. Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, who watched the film this weekend, was impressed by Ravi’s performance and called him to tell the actor about it personally. Thailavar’s gesture made the PS1 actor proud and he took to social media to talk about it.

Jayam Ravi revealed on Twitter about the one-minute conversation he had with Rajinikanth when the latter called him to announce his performance in the recently released Ponniyin Selvan in other words PS1. “That one minute conversation made my day, my year and gave a whole new meaning to my career. Thank you Thalaiva for your kind words and childlike enthusiasm. I am overwhelmed, humbled and blessed to know you loved the movie and my performance ???????? @rajinikanth sir.” Interestingly, Rajinikanth was also invited to the trailer launch of the film along with another Tamil superstar and his former co-star Kamal Haasan.

Comes to Ponniyin Selvan, the film is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel of the same name. Besides the trio of Jayam Ravi, Vikram and Trisha who play siblings, the film also features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Queen Nandini, Karthi as Prince Vanthiyathevan, among others. It also stars Sarathkumar, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prabhu, Jayaram in pivotal roles. Along with an ensemble cast, the film is also being edited on a lavish scale with its second installment, which is expected to hit the big screens in the next nine months. PS 1 hit big screens in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam on September 30.
